In December 2014, the South Carolina Historical Society relocated nearly 5,000 linear feet of manuscript material and more than 3,000 rare books and monographs to a shared space within the Special Collections department at the College of Charleston’s Addlestone Library. Exploration of the antecedents and evolution of this partnership between a private non-profit manuscript archive and a public academic repository can demonstrate lessons learned from the process of condensing archival spaces and personnel to create a deeply rich repository for research and inquiry. In the last several years, the Library of Congress Web archiving program has grown to include large sites that publish news–over more than a year we learned they present serious challenges. After thinking through the use cases for archived online news sites, we realized that completeness of harvest was paramount. As we developed our understanding of deficiencies in the completeness of these kinds of sites we began to test use of RSS feeds to build customized seed lists for shallow crawls as the primary way these sites are crawled. Much has changed in libraries and society since the publication of the 2004 revision of the Nebraska Library Association Intellectual Freedom Manual. The consensus of the current members of the Nebraska Library Association round table on Intellectual Freedom (NLA IF) was not to just revise the former manual, but to create an entirely new edition. In doing so, the authors have addressed a number of new issues. The intention was to keep it relatively brief but still useful. Librarians and archivists have embraced innovative technologies in providing users a way to engage with collections. This engagement is increased through various forms of social media “sharing,” which broadens cultural institutions' visibility to new or remote users. While we make strides in designing new ways to access digital collections, the question remains: what are users losing in sensory (sight, touch, sound, smell) and emotional experience at the digital level? A phenomenological approach consisting of observation and semi-structured interviews was used to investigate user experience with physical objects and their digital surrogates. State Sovereignty Commission Materials In The Paul B. Johnson Family Papers In The Archives Of The University Of Southern Mississippi, Bobs M. Tusa

As Lieutenant Governor and Governor of the state, Paul B. Johnson received copies of regular reports prepared by the director of the Sovereignty Commission. These reports comprise nine boxes of the Paul B. Johnson Family Papers and cover the period from 1964 to 1968. The reports were clearly identified but scattered throughout the Johnson Family Papers in no order. There is much overlap between materials in the Sovereignty Commission series and those in the Highway Patrol series, since the two organizations worked together to monitor Civil Rights activities in the state from 1960 to 1968.

There are few museums in the western half of the United States that provide an opportunity to educate the public about the history of mental health care. Recently, a mental health museum and archive of artifacts, photographs, and documents was established on the grounds of Patton State Hospital in Highland, California. The purpose of this paper is to reflect on the establishment of this museum and archive and to provide an account of the 125 year history of Patton State Hospital.
