Economy And Protein Malnutrition Among The Digo, Luther P. Gerlach

In short, even where protein malnutrition is primarily a result of poor environment, economy, and technology, other, often less obvious, traditional cultural patterns must be taken into account in any development and improvement program. If kwashiorkor is to be eliminated satisfactorily, and if contingent problems are to be kept to a minimum, these other patterns must often also be modified.

Ceramic Analysis Of The Blackduck Ware And Its General Cultural Relationships, G. Edward Evans

The present paper involves the ceramic analysis section of a more comprehensive study relating to the seven most extensively excavated Blackduck focus sites in Minnesota. The pottery from the sites analyzed falls into three ware categories: the Blackduck ware, the Laurel or Rainy River ware, and a third unidentified ware. The Blackduck ware, which is the one with which we are primarily concerned, has been generally described by Lloyd A. Wilford several times (1941, 1955). The objective of most religious teachings and concepts is to change the student's attitude that desirable behavior may follow. The measurement of attitudes and the way people feel about certain religious concepts are, to an extent, determinative of their behavior. This realization has brought about a steady growth within the educational field of attitude and opinion measurement. It has also influenced religious educators to investigate this field in their efforts to get people to attain desirable religious goals.

Areas with extensive evidence of basketry are the Near East, Europe, Peru, and the American Greater Southwest. In the Greater Southwest the basketry evidence dates back to 7000 B.C. The most detailed inventory of basketry within this area comes from the Pueblo domain.

Data for this paper were gathered at intervals from the fall of 1934 through the winter of 1959-60. While a number of informants, including some from each of the seven Keresan-speaking Pueblos, were used during the earlier stages of investigation, the final analysis is based on material obtained from one informant. He is a man now in his late forties who was born and raised at Santa Ana. In the early years of his life he spoke only Santa Ana Keresan, but he now speaks English with a fair degree of fluency, having attended a United States Indian school, served …
