The Prehistory Of The Birch Run Road Site, Saginaw County, Michigan, Caven P. Clark

The Birch Run Road site (20SA393), located in the archaeologic ally complex Saginaw Valley, was partially impacted by the extension of Birch Run Road across the Flint River. In many respects typical of Saginaw Valley sites as a whole, the Birch Run Road site produced artifacts attributable to the Early Archaic, Late Archaic, Late Woodland and historic periods. The prehistoric occupations are evaluated with special attention to the context and form of lithic raw materials, and use of projectile points in determining temporal placement. The Late Woodland component, ca. A.D. 800-1100, represents the most intensive occupation of the site. Physical …

This thesis fills the need for a bibliography of works on the British fairies.

It is essentially an annotated bibliography with an introduction which will help illuminate the fairies of the ancient and medieval literature (through Shakespeare) and the folk literature of Britain. The annotations are extensive are both descriptive and evaluative.

The bibliography includes publications written in English, from 1900 to 1983, which describe and discuss the characteristics and origins of the British fairies. It is divided into seven chapters: Literary Fairies, British Fairies, English Fairies, Welsh and Manx Fairies, Scottish Fairies, Irish Fairies, and Origins of Fairies.

Recovery Of Helminths From Prehistoric Feces: The Cultural Ecology Of Ancient Parasitism, Karl J. Reinhard

Several helminth parasites have been recovered from archaeological sites on the Colorado Plateau. These include Ascaris, Trichuris, Enterobius, Moniliformis, and tapeworms in the families Hymenolepidae and Taeniidae. The recovery of these animals demonstrates that cross-temporal: comparison of parasitism between different prehistoric lifestyles is possible. Such comparison might elucidate the effects of changing lifestyle and subsistance pattern on human parasitism.

Desiccated feces recovered from archaelogical deposits were studied. Hunter-gatherer feces were selected from Dust Devil Cave in southeastern Utah. Agriculturalist feces were studied from Antelope House, a cave site in northeastern Arizona, and Salmon Ruins, a Pueblo …

Between April 15th and May 10th, 1985, Institute personnel directed and carried out an underwater archeological survey of a section of the bottom of the Ashley River and Wappoo Creek where the James Island Bridge is to be constructed (Fig.2). Two types of survey methodology were employed: electronic sensing using a side scan sonar and magnetometer, and a visual investigation of the river and creek bottom using divers. Wealth And Migration In Massachusetts And Maine: 1771-1798, John W. Adams, Alice Bee Kasakoff

We use a genealogical data base to question the idea that the frontier was a "safety valve" for Americans in the years of the founding of the republic. Our findings about the relative wealth of members of nine families show how the frontier affected their migration patterns. We find that it was the middle class, not the poor, who seemed to make best use of the opportunity of the frontier.

The personnel of Dinosaur National Monument, a unit of the National Park Service, are responsible for the protection of natural and cultural resources within its boundaries. While natural resources have received much attention in Dinosaur, cultural resources have not received the treatment they are due. A Cultural Resource Management Plan (CRMP) is currently being designed in Dinosaur to aid in the preservation and protection of cultural resources. Prior to this time, there has been no specific management plan for cultural resources within the monument. Cholesteatoma In A Pre-Columbian American Aborigine From The Gyftakis Site, St. Ignace, Michigan, Robert William Hull

A 25 to 30 year old American aborigine male dating from A.D. 170 + 80 years exhibits bilateral osteolytic lesions of the temporal bones. A differential diagnosis was set up to determine the cause of the pathology. It was determined that the individual had probably been subject to chronic suppurative otitis media complicated by mastoiditis, cholesteatoma, and probable lateral sinus thrombosis of the right temporal bone. Otitis media then developed within the left temporal bone causing some bone destruction, although not to the extent seen in the right temporal.
