Gaming In The Rio Del Norte: Defining The Typology And Usage Of Modified -Potsherds At Pot Creek Pueblo (La 260, Ta 1), Joseph T.M. Gray '97
Honors Projects

A descriptive typology is designed to provide a qualitative framework from which probable usage designations are deduced. These usage designations are predicated on ethnographic and comparative archaeological data.

Amazight Identity In The Post Colonial Moroccan State: A Case Study In Ethnicity, Morag E. Boyd
Honors Papers
This study will demonstrate that the Amazight are a distinct ethnic group in Morocco, despite the common interpretation in scholarly and everyday discourse that they are merely groups of people speaking one of the Amazight language and not representing a distinct cultural entity. The study will go on to examine the ramifications of this ethnic identity and the heritage of the historical and tribal roots of the Amazight in light of nationalism, state building, ethnicity, and cultural marginalization.
Winter Counts As Possible Precursors To Writing, Petra Eccarius
Winter Counts As Possible Precursors To Writing, Petra Eccarius
Nebraska Anthropologist
Native Americans of the Great Plains did not have a formal system of writing. These groups did, however, have various types of graphical representation. Scholars often study the subject matter of these counts in order to gain historic or cultural information about Native groups. Despite the facts that only one important or unusual event is depicted each year, and that the …

"Historical Processes And The Political Organization Of The Hasinai Caddo Indians": A Reply, Nancy Adele, Timothy K. Perttula
"Historical Processes And The Political Organization Of The Hasinai Caddo Indians": A Reply, Nancy Adele, Timothy K. Perttula
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
In a recent volume of the Caddoan Archeology Newsletter, Daniel Hickerson argues that Apache aggression across the Southern Plains, Apache trade in horses and other European goods, and European-introduced diseases dramatically affected Caddo an populations by encouraging their migration south to the upper Neches/Angelina river basins area traditionally occupied by one segment of the Caddo, the Hasinai groups. In his opinion, the Hasinai confederacy was a nascent chiefdom that developed as a direct result of this mid to late-seventeenth century southern migration. As has been pointed out by Caddoan ethnographers, ethnohistorians, and archeologists for 50 years or more, the Caddo …

Akyem Te: The Technology And Socio-Cultural Setting Of The Abompe Bauxite-Beadmaking Industry, Ghana, Yaw Bredwa-Mensah
BEADS: Journal of the Society of Bead Researchers
Drawing primarily on data obtained from recent research at Akyem Abompe, Ghana, this paper examines the technology and socio-cultural setting of a stone-beadmaking industry in the forest zone of Ghana. Preliminary ethnographic observation of the industry not only reveals that it is community-based, but that it also interacts in a complex way with other local crafts in the village. The production process and marketing of the beads are discussed, as is the antiquity of the industry.
