Importance Of A Rooster Feed In Broiler Breeder Production, Alex Corzo, Marcelo Silva
Importance Of A Rooster Feed In Broiler Breeder Production, Alex Corzo, Marcelo Silva
Proceedings of the Arkansas Nutrition Conference
Of all feed phases in poultry production, rooster feeding is arguably the least studied. During the rear phase, there is general agreement that male and female broiler breeders can be provided a common feed program, only differing on feed amounts provided, that results in growth targets reached for each sex. It is during the production phase that there is some disagreement on the best way to support the nutritional needs of the adult rooster. A considerable segment of the world does employ a rooster feed as a way to better support the nutritional needs of working males. Other poultry operations …

The objective is to provide a brief overview of scientific findings to aid nutritionists in the decision-making process when selecting optimum levels for poultry nutrition. …
Every Day Feeding Of Broiler Breeder Pullets, David Brandt
Every Day Feeding Of Broiler Breeder Pullets, David Brandt
Proceedings of the Arkansas Nutrition Conference
Broiler breeders are characterized by their fast growth and sensitivity to light stimuli. Unlike commercial layers, they have a lower egg production rate and are kept on the floor during rearing and laying periods. Fertile eggs are the primary objective, necessitating careful management of their egg-laying properties, while controlling their body weights. Unrestricted feeding leads to early laying with poor peak and persistency in egg production. Therefore, nutrient intake must be restricted to achieve target body weights at light stimulation (22 weeks). This involves both quantitative and qualitative feed restrictions. Quantitative feed restriction can lead to issues such as poor …
Integration Of Commercial Broiler Data Into A Broiler Growth Model, David Brandt
Integration Of Commercial Broiler Data Into A Broiler Growth Model, David Brandt
Proceedings of the Arkansas Nutrition Conference
This study explores the alignment of theoretical broiler growth models with practical farm conditions, emphasizing the value of integrating commercial data into simulation models. The EFG Broiler Growth Model, developed by Emmens, Fisher and Gous, is highlighted for its mechanistic approach, predicting growth based on feed intake. While empirical models are useful, they are limited by changes in genetics. Both mechanistic and empirical models struggle to predict how broilers will respond to feed under the challenging conditions typically experienced in commercial operations. The study also discusses the development of empirical models to determine broiler responses to balanced protein and energy, …

Background
Bioacoustic monitoring is an effective and minimally invasive method to study wildlife ecology. However, even the state-of-the-art techniques for analyzing birdsongs decrease in accuracy in the presence of extraneous signals such as anthropogenic noise and vocalizations of non-target species. Deep supervised source separation (DSSS) algorithms have been shown to effectively separate mixtures of animal vocalizations. However, in practice, recording sites also have site-specific variations and unique background audio that need to be removed, warranting the need for site-specific data.
Methods
Here, we test the potential of training DSSS models on site-specific bird vocalizations and background audio. We used a …

Remote sensing tools, along with Global Navigation Satellite System cattle collars and digital soil maps, may help elucidate spatiotemporal relationships among soils, terrain, forages, and animals. However, standard computational procedures preclude systems-level evaluations across this continuum due to data inoperability and processing limitations. Deep learning, a subset of neural network, may elucidate efficiency of livestock production and linkages within the livestock-grazing environment. Consequently, we applied deep learning to environmental remote sensing data to (1) develop predictive models for yield and forage nutrition based on vegetation indices and (2) at a pixel-level (per 55 m2), identify how grazing is …

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the deadliest cancers, with a five-year survival rate. While Sorafenib (SRB) is the standard therapy, it is only effective in prolonging survival for some patients, emphasizing the urgent need for alternative treatment options. Resistance to apoptosis is a defining characteristic of cancer cells and a crucial factor in cancer recurrence and relapse. Although, anticancer potential of the FDA-approved compound Ormeloxifene (ORM), which has well-defined pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties, has been explored in a variety of cancers, its efficacy in HCC has remained unknown. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the …

Enhanced Bmp Signaling Via Alk2 In Osteoclasts Decreases Bone Density In Mice, Yolanda V. Gutierrez, Hiroyuki Yamaguchi, Yuji Mishina, Yoshihiro Komatsu
Research Colloquium
Bone remodeling is a complex biological process that has been extensively studied. Bone Morphogenetic Proteins (BMPs) are recognized as one of the critical growth factors that coordinate bone remodeling. Previous studies have demonstrated that BMP signaling in osteoclasts has a positive effect on osteoclast function. However, little is known about how each BMP type I receptors control osteoclastogenesis. To investigate this question, we utilized the Cre-LoxP system to specifically activate BMP signaling through ALK2 in mice. We utilized Cathepsin K (Ctsk)-Cre driver to activate BMP signaling in osteoclasts in mice. Compared with aged- and gender-matched controls, gain-of-function of BMP mutant …

Low-Emission Beef Production In The Southern Rangelands Of Western Australia: An Analysis Of Herd Structure And Stocking Rate Experiencing Droughts, Christophe D'Abbadie
Animal production and livestock research articles
Reconciling profitable cattle production with rangeland health and reduced emissions is a key challenge in the southern rangelands of Western Australia (WA). Stocking rate and herd structure selection are crucial decisions to achieve this balance. This study assessed the emission profiles of three contrasting herd structures (weaner production, live export, and slaughter production), and three stocking rates within a herd–carbon accounting modelling framework. The analysis considers the impact of varying drought frequencies on these cattle production systems. Herd models were developed for the semiarid southern WA rangelands. Stocking rates were set at 100%, 80% and 66% of the government recommended …

An Assessment Of Dingo Ancestry In Camp Dogs In Western Australia, Tracey L. Kreplins, Danielle Stephens, N Laing, C Oskam
Biosecurity Research Articles
Hybridisation between Australian dingoes and domestic dogs is a controversial area of interest and research. An ongoing canine sterilisation programme in rural and remote Western Australia provided an opportunity to assess the dingo ancestry of camp dogs and opportunities for hybridisation. Blood samples were collected from 345 individual community dogs at 21 locations. Dogs were screened using 23 microsatellite loci and ancestry percentage assigned using an iterative Bayesian assignment algorithm. A single individual was a dingo, 96% were domestic dogs and 3.5% were hybrids. Camp dog and dingo hybridisation in these areas is of little concern in terms of conserving …
