William Lescaze And Hart Crane: A Bridge Between Architecture And Poetry, Lindsay Stamm Shapiro Apr 1984

William Lescaze And Hart Crane: A Bridge Between Architecture And Poetry, Lindsay Stamm Shapiro

The Courier

This article expounds upon the unique relationship between the architect William Lescaze and poet Hart Crane after Lescaze's emigration to the United States during the early twentieth century. Lescaze's knowledge of European modernism influenced Crane's poems, which sought to counteract the pessimism of modern poets (for example T.S. Eliot's "The Wasteland"), and provide affirmation of the Machine Age.

Revised Research Design For Testing And Mitigation Of Archaeological Resources Along Loop 1: North Extension Of Mopac From Us 183 To Just North Of Parmer Lane, John W. Clark Jr.

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State

Archaeological sites within the right-of-way of the northward extension of Loop 1 (MoPac Boulevard), from US 183 to just north of Parmer Lane, are concentrated in two areas. One area is along an old road running north-south and lying to the west of the Balcones Research Center, and the other area is the late nineteenth century community of Waters Park.

The project involves the construction of a multilane divided freeway between the cited two termini. During initial reconnaissance in 1974, many sites were located within or near the proposed right-of-way. At that time and subsequently, site survey forms have been …

Barry Lopez, Peter Wild Jan 1984

Barry Lopez, Peter Wild

Western Writers Series Digital Editions

In 1685, the people of Ansbach, Germany, chased a wolf. After finally killing it, they dressed the dead animal as a man, fixed a human mask to the carcass, then strung it up in the town square. Two hundred and ninety years later, Edward Abbey, a part-time forest ranger, writer, and self-styled hermit, wrote The Monkey Wrench Gang (Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott, 1975). In his picaresque novel, a merry band of malcontents roars over the mountains and through the canyons of the American Southwest on midnight forays. They burn down signs advertising real estate and pour Karo syrup into the …
