G73-15 Handling Feed Moisture In Ration Formulation And Inventory Control (Revised December 1983), Paul Q. Guyer
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Nutritional quality control begins with knowing and adjusting for variation in the moisture content of feed ingredients. Moisture variations in feeds are almost always of more importance than variations in protein, mineral, and energy. Inventory control is affected by moisture content of feeds. Some feeds on hand are constantly changing in moisture content, and these changes frequently lead to financial losses when a price adjustment is not made for moisture losses.

G73-4 Bagworms (Revised June 1987), Frederick P. Baxendale
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Bagworms can damage juniper, arborvitae, pine, and spruce. Description, life history, and control are discussed in this publication.
The bagworm is native to the United States and is found in eastern Nebraska. Bagworms feed on many species of trees and shrubs, but are most common on junipers. They are rarely a serious problem on deciduous trees, except when larvae move away from evergreens.
G73-14 Grain Processing For Feedlot Cattle, Paul Q. Guyer
G73-14 Grain Processing For Feedlot Cattle, Paul Q. Guyer
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Several changes have occurred in the cattle feeding business which have focused attention on grain processing. The first of these was, the arrival of big feedlots provided an opportunity to use larger and more sophisticated processing equipment at reasonable cost per ton of feed produced. Also, the need to minimize feed separation and digestive disturbances encouraged the use of more sophisticated methods of processing.
A second development that is now focusing attention on grain processing is the rapidly increasing costs of equipment, fuel and labor involved in grain processing. In recent years, these have been increasing more rapidly than the …

The selection of a site for a livestock feedlot directly affects the success of the feedlot.
The selection of a site for a livestock feedlot directly affects the success of the feedlot.
Factors to consider in choosing a feedlot location include: environmental considerations, streams, topography, water supply, land area, towns and zoning laws. Other items include a source of livestock and feed, transportation (roads), marketing facilities. Finally the operator must determine the size to build with provision for expansion.
Market Prospects For Rapeseed : 1972-73, R J. Guyton
Market Prospects For Rapeseed : 1972-73, R J. Guyton
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
Interest in rapeseed as an alternative crop in the agricultural region of Western Australia was reflected in the area sown in 1971, some 70,000 acres, and an initial export contract of 10,000 tons made in January 1972.
This market report draws upon information released by the Department of Primary Industry and Department of Trade and Industry (both located in Canberra) and research within the Department of Agriculture. Its purpose is to outline future prospects for rapeseed as an aid to decision making for the 1972 season.

The College had been doing a certain amount of Extension work since 1901, 13 years before the Smith-Lever Act was passed. This work consisted mainly of holding farmers' institutes, addressing farmers' meetings and judging at county fairs. During this 13-year period (1901-1914), four different superintendents were employed. Stacy Cochran served for two years. The work was discontinued for two years, and in 1905 it was reestablished under M. F. Greeley. He was succeeded in a short time by A. E. Chamberlain. The last man to hold the position before the work finally merged into Extension work was H. F. Stoner …

New Laboratory For Virus Disease Studies, Department Of Agriculture, Western Australia
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
Exotic diseases continually pose a threat to Australia's animal industries and the consequences of major outbreak could be disastrous.
If an outbreak should occur, it is essential that clinical diagnosis is confirmed without delay for control measures to be effective.
The completion of the new Virology Laboratory provides a building in which most exotic viral diseases could be handled with safety for diagnostic purposes in the event of an outbreak.

now being packed and protected with "grape guards"—gas releasing generators consisting of chemically treated paper which releases small quantities of sulphur dioxide. Grape guards inserted in unventilated storage boxes are activated by the high humidity in the box to release their sulphur dioxide and prevent decay of the packaged fruit. The guards were developed in the United States two years ago.

Hydrocyanic Acid Potential Of Black Cherry Leaves, Dan Smeathers
Hydrocyanic Acid Potential Of Black Cherry Leaves, Dan Smeathers
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Black cherry (Prunus serotina L.) leaves have been known to be a source of hydrocyanic acid poisoning of cattle since the late 1800 "s. Results of early studies indicated that the black cherry was one of the most toxic of the cyanogenetic plants. An early idea which has persisted to the present has been that black cherry leaves must be wilted before they are toxic to cattle. Black cherry trees are found throughout the eastern United States and as far west as Arizona and North and South Dakota. In the spring of 1972, the author of the present study conducted …

Livestock Feeding: What Small Feeders Are Doing In Nebraska, Allen C. Wellman, Jeffrey L. Jorgensen
Livestock Feeding: What Small Feeders Are Doing In Nebraska, Allen C. Wellman, Jeffrey L. Jorgensen
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Specific data about how smaller Nebraska feeders are marketing their livestock has not been readily available. This is a report of a survey which was conducted in order to analyze the marketing practices of these livestock feeders and the changes in their marketing practices over a five-year period.
The objectives of this study are (1) to determine whether direct sales of fed cattle to packers is increasing in Nebraska as national trends indicate, (2) to obtain a general picture of the current state of the livestock marketing system for small feeders in Nebraska, and (3) to forecast possible trends for …

Irrigation And Non-Irrigation Alternatives For Reducing Sugar Cane Transportation Costs In Santa Cruz, Bolivia, Lee M. Bailey
Irrigation And Non-Irrigation Alternatives For Reducing Sugar Cane Transportation Costs In Santa Cruz, Bolivia, Lee M. Bailey
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The major objective of this study was to investigate various alternatives for lowering the cost of transporting sugar cane in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. These alternatives included both irrigation and non-irrigation possibilities. Production costs for sugar cane were determined by using studies completed by the USAID-Utah State University study team, budget studies of Senor Carlos Castro of the Guabira' sugar cane mill in Santa Cruz and a study undertaken by Senor Enrique Gomez, a graduate student at Utah State University.
A cane registry commissioned by the National Sugar Cane Commission was used in conjunction with a least-cost transportation model in order …
Cooperative Extension Service Organization And Administration In Utah And Thailand, Sommart Chinoim
Cooperative Extension Service Organization And Administration In Utah And Thailand, Sommart Chinoim
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
Thailand is an agricultural country with about 80 percent of the population operating farms. Agriculture is the main source of national income and 90 percent of all exports are agricultural products. The farms are small and a high percent of the farmers are illiterate which accounts for so many people remaining on farms. Even though agricultural development is under the National Economic and Social Development Plan, new methods of farming are not easily accessible to the small farmers. They still follow their ancestor's methods of cultivating, irrigating, and harvesting their crops. Most farmers operate subsistent farm units. They plant enough …
Present Livestock Feed Balance, Projected Feed Requirement And Potential For The State Of Utah, Roberto Savelli C.
Present Livestock Feed Balance, Projected Feed Requirement And Potential For The State Of Utah, Roberto Savelli C.
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The objectives of this thesis were to estimate the present livestock feed balance and project livestock feed requirements and balances to 1980 for the State of Utah.
Present feed production was obtained from published data. Livestock feed requirements were calculated using factors published in Livestock-Feed Relationships, a publication of the United States Department of Agriculture.
The projections of feed requirements to 1980 were made by projecting livestock numbers based on a least squares analysis of past trends. Utilizing the projected numbers permits calculation of the feed requirements.
Feed production in 1980 was obtained by projecting past feed production and by …
Import Substitution Potentials And Marketing Policies For Forest Products In Iran, M. A. Salimi-Manshadi
Import Substitution Potentials And Marketing Policies For Forest Products In Iran, M. A. Salimi-Manshadi
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Consumption data for different forest products were calculated for nine years (1962 to 1970). Then, taking consumption as a function of per capita disposable income and population, mathematical models were developed. By regressing per capita consumption of each product on per capita disposable income and determining the corresponding coefficients, the per capita demand for the products in the target years was calculated. The total projected demand was then computed by the products of per capita consumption and population in the target years.
Through regression analysis the future import of forest products was projected, and import substitution possibilities were discussed.
Finally, …
A Method Of Estimating Minimum Dairy Farm Sizes For Specific Income Levels, K. Dale Russell
A Method Of Estimating Minimum Dairy Farm Sizes For Specific Income Levels, K. Dale Russell
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The purpose of this paper is to calculate a method of estimating minimum dairy farm sizes for specific income levels. A survey of a sample of Utah dairy farmers was conducted to obtain data to calculate a long run average cost schedule. Dairy farmers who had just recently built new facilities and with varying sized herds were interviewed. Individual costs were studied to establish their effect on the long run average cost curve. Different average revenue curves for varying prices and production levels were used to establish minimum cow numbers needed to give specified incomes and growth potentials. Marginal analysis …
An Evaluation Of The Competitive Position Of Utah Livestock Production To Other Livestock Producing Areas, Kenneth H. Gray
An Evaluation Of The Competitive Position Of Utah Livestock Production To Other Livestock Producing Areas, Kenneth H. Gray
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The purpose of this thesis is to make an evaluation of the competitive position of the Utah livestock industry by use of a linear programming model (MPS-360). This is on the basis of the least cost means of production to meet the quantity demanded of the livestock products. This is accomplished by dividing the United States into six regions where Utah is one of these regions to enable careful consideration of Utah's agricultural enterprises.
The agricultural products used in the analysis are beef, pork, broilers, turkeys, eggs and milk.
The feeds used for production are barley, wheat, corn, oats, milo, …
