Supplemental Value Of Feed Grade Biuret And Urea-Molasses For Cows On Dry Winter Grass, Ivan G. Rush, Robert Totusek Jan 1976

Supplemental Value Of Feed Grade Biuret And Urea-Molasses For Cows On Dry Winter Grass, Ivan G. Rush, Robert Totusek

Panhandle Research and Extension Center

Four trials were conducted to evaluate the supplemental value of feed grade biuret (in dry supplements) and urea (in liquid urea-molasses mixtures) when compared to natural protein and urea in dry supplements for beef cows grazing low quality dry winter range grass. Urea or feed grade biuret provided 50% of the nitrogen in 30% CP dry supplements and urea provided 50% of the nitrogen in 30% CP dry supplements and urea provided 94% of the nitrogen in 30% CP liquid supplements. Dry supplements were self-fed with salt added to limit intake.

Winter weight loss of cows fed dry urea-containing supplements …

Evaluation Of Beef Cattle Range Supplements Containing Urea And Biuret, Ivan G. Rush, R. R. Johnson, Robert Totusek Jan 1976

Evaluation Of Beef Cattle Range Supplements Containing Urea And Biuret, Ivan G. Rush, R. R. Johnson, Robert Totusek

Panhandle Research and Extension Center

Two winter trials were conducted with 304 lactating range cows on dry grass to evaluate non-protein-nitrogen (NPN) in 30% protein supplements containing biuret (pure and feed grade), urea and extruded grain-urea. The NPN sources contributed one-half of the supplemental nitrogen with natural 15 and 30% protein supplements serving as negative and positive controls.
Winter weight loss of cows was greater (P~.02) on the negative than on the positive control in both trials. The apparent utilization of all NPN sources was low and the utilization of urea and extruded grain-urea was less than pure or feed grade biuret. Rumen biuretolytic activity …

Ec76-1741 Christmas Trees: A Management Guide, Donald E. Janssen, Neal E. Jennings Jan 1976

Ec76-1741 Christmas Trees: A Management Guide, Donald E. Janssen, Neal E. Jennings

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

In America the decorated Christmas tree has become an accepted tradition. Christmas would seem barren to most people without it. Raising Christmas trees is a growing industry and has proven to be a profitable use of land if high-quality, salable trees are produced.

Planting, managing, and harvesting Christmas trees is a high labor, high risk endeavor. Here is a list of questions. If you can answer "yes" to every one, you will be a successful Christmas tree grower.

Are you willing to plant trees every April?

Are you willing to shear or prune every tree, every year (mid-June to mid-July) …

This NebGuide contains information about buying and sewing wool and wool blends.

Wool is a unique fiber. It is a natural fiber made from the fleece of sheep. Wool fabrics are not all alike. They come in a variety of textures and weights. Wool can be sheer, thin, soft, thick, stiff or anything in between. Wool fabrics are constructed by weaving, knitting or felting.

G76-279 Processing Deer, Glenn W. Froning, P. S. Gipson Jan 1976

G76-279 Processing Deer, Glenn W. Froning, P. S. Gipson

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

It is important to process game properly to obtain maximum flavor and storage stability.

It is a pleasure to hunt game, but perhaps an even greater satisfaction comes from eating the meat. In order to have a flavorful experience, the game animal must be handled, processed and prepared properly. If the game is improperly processed or handled, one may lose much of the desirable flavor and storage stability.

This NebGuide discusses how to select bulls to improve your herd.

Bulletin No 3966 - Vitamin A And Animal Health, J. Johnson Jan 1976

Bulletin No 3966 - Vitamin A And Animal Health, J. Johnson

Bulletins - 3000 - 3999

Vitamin A is one of the essential vitamins for animal health. Grazing animals obtain their vitamin A requirements mostly from the carotene in green feed. This carotene is converted to Vitamin A in the intestinal wall and is passed to the liver and to a less extent the kidneys for storage. Some carotene also passes direct to the liver where it is stored before it is converted to vitamin A.

When dry pastures, hay and grains (except maize) are low in carotene content this ability of the animals to store vitamin A means that they usually have enough when there …

Low Protein Rations Halve Bacon Pig Profits, N W. Godfrey Jan 1976

Low Protein Rations Halve Bacon Pig Profits, N W. Godfrey

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

For many years the department of agriculture has recommended that pig producers include meat meal or other protein concentrate in pig rations based on cereal grains. However, it is still common for pigs to be raised on cereal grains with little or no protein added.

Recent trials at the Department of Agriculture's Medina Pig Research Station have demonstrated the losses which can result from feeding pigs on low-protein cereal rations.

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins

Within the past decade, emphasis has been placed on the quality of our environment. Beef cattle feedlots have been singled out as a significant source of environmental pollution. Environmental protection provided by control facilities requires basic knowledge of the physical and chemical properties of feedlot runoff. This bulletin summarizes studies of physical and chemical properties of beef cattle feedlot runoff completed from August, 1968 through December, 1972.
