Case Study Analysis Of Strategic Alliances For The U.S. Beef Industry, Angel Bu Zapatta
Case Study Analysis Of Strategic Alliances For The U.S. Beef Industry, Angel Bu Zapatta
LSU Master's Theses
This paper provides case studies on the structure of six strategic alliances in the beef industry. Strategic alliances are identified whose structure could conceivably be used in Louisiana. Strategic alliances are compared and contrasted on the basis of development and performance. The main objective of this study was to determine the organization and operation of six strategic alliances in the beef industry. The study examines strategic alliances in the U.S. beef industry using multiple exploratory case studies. The exploratory type, allows the researcher to better understand critical points in the beef industry and how the use of strategic alliances can …

Altering FA content in soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] oil for improved functionality is a research goal of many soybean breeders. Several of the genes that alter palmitic, stearic, oleic, linoleic, and linolenic acids are modifier genes with small effects, causing these FA traits to act as quantitative traits. The objective of this study was to identify modifier FA quantitative trait loci (QTL) in soybean. A recombinant inbred line population was created from two prominent ancestors of currently avail-able U.S. cultivars (Essex and Williams) and grown in five environments. One hundred simple se-quence repeat markers spaced throughout the genome …

John Owens: Speeches and Appearances
One day a rancher's prize bull was missing from the section of his land the railroad passed through. He filed suit against the railroad, wanting only to be paid a fair-price of the bull. A big-city lawyer arrived in the rancher's small town to represent the railroad in the case and quickly cornered the rancher, pressuring him to settle out of court.

Comparison Of Three Methods Of Size Grading Channel Catfish Stockers, Bartholomew W. Green, David L. Heikes, Andrew E. Goodwin
Comparison Of Three Methods Of Size Grading Channel Catfish Stockers, Bartholomew W. Green, David L. Heikes, Andrew E. Goodwin
United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications
The stocking of size-graded catfish into production ponds should increase production efficiency, but grading large numbers of fish with existing technology is laborious. We evaluated the effectiveness of a mechanical grader recently developed at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) relative to that of box and sock graders and assessed injuries sustained by stocker channel catfish Ictalurus punctatus during grading. Three 0.25-acre ponds were stocked at 11,777 lb/acre. Initial total length (TL) ranged from 6.3 to 15.7 in, and initial weight of individuals ranged from 0.04 to 1.10 lb. The fish population in each pond was divided into …
Texture Profile Analysis And Composition Of A Minced Catfish Product, J. Lee Wiles, Bartholomew W. Green, R. Bryant
Texture Profile Analysis And Composition Of A Minced Catfish Product, J. Lee Wiles, Bartholomew W. Green, R. Bryant
United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications
Texture Profile Analysis of minced catfish products indicated that minced proteins from the belly flap meat have excellent functional properties to form gels or restructured products. Belly flap meat is considered a low-value trimming, with about 16.9% protein and 11.2% total lipid. Washing of minced catfish trimmings increased the moisture content from 71.5% to 77.9% while reducing mechanical hardness (19.1 N to 11.9 N), chewiness index (14.2 N to 8.83 N) and shear energy (0.82 J to 0.51 J). No significant changes were found in cohesiveness, resilience, and springiness of the minced fish after washing or the addition of 3.3% …

Comparative Productivity Of Five Cool-Season Pasture Grasses Under Intermittent Flood Irrigation Grazed By Beef Cow-Calf Pairs Using Management Intensive Grazing Practices, Dale Zobell, Ken Olson, Randall Wiedmeier
All Current Publications
Utah State University is engaged in studies to determine management practices that can be employed under intensive irrigated pasture to increase productivity and viability of beef and dairy producers in Utah. One of these initiatives was a study comparing five cool-season grasses grazed by beef cow-calf pairs over a 4-year period.
Sexual And Asexual Reproductive Characteristics Of The North American Pawpaw [Asimina Triloba (L.) Dunal], Sheri Beth Crabtree
Sexual And Asexual Reproductive Characteristics Of The North American Pawpaw [Asimina Triloba (L.) Dunal], Sheri Beth Crabtree
University of Kentucky Master's Theses
The North American Pawpaw [Asimina triloba (L.) Dunal] shows great potential as a new fruit crop. Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Ky. is the site for the USDA National Clonal Germplasm Repository (NCGR) for Asimina species. Both the fruit and the trees themselves are of high value to growers and nursery producers. Pawpaw cultivars are currently propagated by grafting or budding onto seedling rootstock; no method currently exists to clonally propagate pawpaw on its own roots. Three methods of layering were attempted in this study to clonally propagate pawpaw: trench layering, pot layering, and mound layering. Both trench layering …

Fisheries Research Contract Report No. 6 - Assessment Of The Nutritional Variability Of Lupins As An Aquaculture Feed Ingredient, Brett Glencross, John Curnow, Wayne Hawkins
Fisheries Research Reports
The nutritional value of the kernel meals of three species of lupin (Lupinus albus, L. angustifolius and L. luteus) was compared against each other and a reference ingredient of solvent extracted soybean meal, when fed to rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Each lupin kernel meal was included in test diets at 300 g/kg and also at a greater level, representing 50% of the total protein content in the diet. The digestibility of protein of all lupin kernel meals was better than for the soybean meal. The highest protein digestibility was that from L. luteus kernel meal at 30% inclusion (100%), which …

Topic: Nu Program Highlights In The Areas Of Food, Agriculture And Natural Resources, And The Future Of The Nebraska Agricultural Industry, John Owens
John Owens: Speeches and Appearances
Tonight I would like very much to talk with you about the good news of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln.
It is a pleasure to talk about good news. For the last two-plus years of my going-on three years in Nebraska, we have had a great deal of painful news to discuss, as Nebraska's budget crisis affected its land-grant university through budget cuts. Throughout the university and certainly in the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, cuts occurred that we did not want to make and never would have considered had they …
