In this study conducted in Erzurum province's Oltu district Kırdağı location during 2015, 2016 and 2017 concerning the above forest, forest interior and forest edge rangeland sites, the botanical composition of rangeland sites, canopy coverage rate, rangeland condition scores, and comparison of the condition of rangeland and the health class were emphasized. According to the results, although the grass and legume rations in the forest edge rangeland was lower, the others families? ratio was higher than that of the other sites. In this study, biogenic amines levels of Van herby cheese (Van Otlu peynir) matured in dry-salted/filling (basma) and brine (salamura)-salted techniques were investigated. For this purpose, a total of 100 herby cheese samples matured by dry-salted and brine-salted techniques (50 dry-salted and 50 brine-salted) were purchased from the grocery stores in Van province, and chemical characteristics and biogenic amines contents of the samples were determined. Kernel size is a vital milling characteristic for Avena sativa L. (oats), with larger kernel size being desirable for milling facilities. This project evaluated the effect of genotype, environment, and their genotype by environment interaction (G by E) on kernel width, length, and area for a set of 27 oat cultivars grown at multiple locations in South Dakota over three years. Findings indicated significant differences among oat varieties, and that environment had a substantial effect on kernel size. However, we did not see a strong influence of genotype by environment interaction on kernel size. The lack of impact for genotype …

A century ago, the North American grasslands and prairie ecosystems were dominated by bison. At least 30 million bison roamed the Great Plains when the first explorers arrived. By 1900, there were little over a thousand bison remained in the United States and Canada. This study was carried out in Mediterranean climate and under rainfed conditions in Turkey for a period of three years throughout the growing seasons of 2014/2015, 2015/2016 and 2016/2017. It was conducted in a randomized complete block experimental design (RCBD) with three replications. In present study, genetic diversity for agro-morphological characters and macro/ microelements were investigated in sixteen promising local faba bean genotypes originated from Turkey. This study reported the experimental analysis on wood briquettes manufactured from Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys pubescens) and beech wood (Fagus sylvatica), regarded as an economically valuable fuel source. The following properties of briquettes: physical properties (density and moisture content); chemical properties (heating value, namely calorific value, and ash content); thermal properties (thermal conductivity and specific heat); and mechanical properties (breaking strength). These properties allowed the assessment of the efficiency of two species for using them in briquette manufacturing. Water availability is a very important factor for the growth and development of plants, which limits the plant production capacity. Rootstocks are widely utilized to improve plants tolerance to various biotic and abiotic stresses. In this study, physiological and biochemical responses of fifteen almond rootstock candidates to drought stress were investigated under in vitro conditions. The shoot tips from fifteen almond rootstock candidates were cultured in MS medium containing 1.0 mg/L BAP, 0.01 mg/L IBA, 30 g/L sucrose and 7 g/L agar. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of different drying methods on the nutritional content and antioxidant activity of purslane. Two different purslane samples have been dried using four different methods (sun, vacuum, hot air, and freeze drying). Dried and fresh samples were analyzed for their dry matter, β-carotene content, chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b contents, total flavonoid content, total flavonol content, total phenolic content, %DPPH radical scavenge activity, metal chelating activity, and color. Experiment 1 tested the hypothesis that ad libitum consumption of a 1:1 blend (MIX) of sodium selenite (ISe) and SELPLEX vs solely ISe as selenium (Se) supplements (27 ppm) in a vitamin-mineral mix (V-M) by steers subjected to summer-long grazing of toxic endophyte-infected tall fescue (TE) would ameliorate the negative effects of TE by positively affecting the expression pattern of prolactin (PRL) and NF-kB pathway genes by circulating leukocytes (WBC). To establish an efficient in vitro regeneration protocol for orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerata L.), type of medium, several plant growth regulators and their various concentrations were evaluated in a factorial experiment for callus induction and plant regeneration. Endosperm supported mature embryo were used as explants and optimum response in callus induction was observed on Chu medium with 12 mg/L dicamba (3.6-dichloro-2-methoxybenzoic acid). The highest responding embryogenic callus (15%) was found with Murashige and Skoog medium and 8 mg/L 2.4-D (2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid). MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are essential players of plant defence systems because of their involvement in reprogramming gene expression under adverse environmental conditions including drought and heat, which are considered major players in limiting crop productivity. miR172b-3p was previously determined as a remarkable stress-responsive miRNA in our next-generation sequencing (NGS) analysis in potato. This study aims to understand the functions of miR172b-3p and its target (ERTF RAP2-7-like) under drought, heat, and combined treatments by overexpressing the miR172b-3p in stress-tolerant (Unica) and sensitive (Russet Burbank) potato cultivars. miR172b-3p overexpression in transgenic lines suppressed the ERTF RAP2-7-like expression leading to enhanced carbon fixation efficiency. …

Helicoverpa zea nudivirus 2 (HzNV-2) is the only known sterilizing and sexually-transmitted insect virus and causes pathological symptoms in H. zea reproductive tissues. HzNV-2 has features that make it a candidate as a H. zea (corn earworm) control agent, such as the ability to cause asymptomatic (latent) and symptomatic (lytic) infections and the ability to influence mating behavior of its host to favor virus spread. In this study, a novel value-added dairy-based health formulation was developed using whey protein hydrolysate and probiotic organisms. In the first part of the study, different forms of whey proteins, concentrate WPC80, isolate WPI90, and hydrolysates WPH10, WPH15 and WPH20 were screened for bioactivities (antimicrobial, antioxidant, and antihypertensive activity). Hydrolysate WPH10, exhibiting the highest bioactivities was conjugated with maltodextrin. A batch of 2L conjugated solution was spray dried in a Niro drier with an inlet and outlet temperature of 200⁰C and 90⁰C, and alternatively, freeze dried at −80 °C under 50 mTorr vacuum. Sea lice pose a global threat to open-net salmonid farming. As Chile is the second largest Atlantic salmon producer, they have a vested interest in mitigating infestations and increasing production. However, this will not be possible without 1) increased research on the underlying mechanisms behind sea lice infestations that will inform 2) governmental regulation of salmon farming. This increase in research and governmental regulation will only be possible through transparency on pesticide practices and sea louse monitoring data from companies operating in Chile. The Sheep and Goat Industry Funding Scheme (IFS) has been operating since 2010 to address biosecurity threats relevant to the Western Australian (WA) sheep and goat industry. The Scheme was established by regulation under the Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act 2007 to enable sheep and goat producers to identify pest and disease priorities at a whole-of-industry level and raise funds for activities to address these priorities.
