Forced displacement is a global crisis that poses challenges for nations like Egypt. Despite international NGO support, escalating displaced individuals have overwhelmed existing capacities. Refugee Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) have emerged as a natural response from the communities themselves to bridge the gap between the state and NGOs and the refugee community. However, CBOs in Egypt face challenges that impact their operation and continuity. Through qualitative research, this study aims to explore the experience of the Yemeni CBOs. In Egypt, if not living with extended family members, the majority of children without parental care are placed in care homes. Research shows that children without parental care, particularly those raised in care homes, generally receive low-quality care. This can lead to adverse effects on their mental health, physical health, developmental growth, sense of belonging, intimacy, social and behavioral competence, and academic performance. Studies also relate institutionalization to problems in attachment and caregiver-infant relationships. The experiences and perceptions of 125 selected investors (small enterpreneurs) and 192 workers in 5 different areas of the Western Desert of Egypt are investigated. Socio-economic characteristcs of the investors and workers are described, and respondents' views of community services and the sources of change and resulting conflicts in the areas are assessed. Reasons underlying investment in the desert area are explored, paying particular attention to choice of activity and location. Investors' perceptions of successes, constraints and prospects of desert investment and workers' perceptions of the potential of their respective sectors of activity are reported. The aim of the study is to see how the poor have fared over the 1970's: to evaluate whether their welfare improved or worsened. The cost of the private consumption goods will be estimated over the period of 1970-1982 using detailed information on the cost of food, clothing, and shelter for both urban and rural areas.

The socio-economic study reported here was conducted in July and August of 1979 as part of the Egyptian Government's Metered Water Service Connection Program for improving and expanding water and wastewater utilities in Greater Cairo. Approximately one quarter of the population of Greater Cairo presently lacks direct access to the city's water supply_system and must obtain its water from public fountains. Households lacking water connections are chiefly in the poorest areas of the city.
