Introduction - A Review Of Membrane Reactors, Fausto Gallucci, Angelo Basile, Faisal Ibney Hai

Faisal I Hai

In the last decades, membrane catalysis has been studied by several research and the significant progress in this field is summarized in several review articles (Armor 1998, Lin 2001, Lu 2007, Mcleary 2006, Sanchez 2002, Saracco 1994, Shu 1991). Considering a IUPAC definition (Koros 1996), a membrane reactor (MR) is a device for simultaneously performing a reaction (steam reforming, dry reforming, autothermal reforming, etc.) and a membrane-based separation in the same physical device. Therefore, the membrane not only plays the role of a separator, but also takes place in the reaction itself. The term Membrane Bioreactor (MBR), on the other …

Micropollutants are emerging as a new challenge to the scientific community. This review provides a summary of the recent occurrence of micropollutants in the aquatic environment including sewage, surface water, groundwater and drinking water. The discharge of treated effluent from WWTPs is a major pathway for the introduction of micropollutants to surface water. WWTPs act as primary barriers against the spread of micropollutants. WWTP removal efficiency of the selected micropollutants in 14 countries/regions depicts compound-specific variation in removal, ranging from 12.5 to 100%. Advanced treatment processes, such as activated carbon adsorption, advanced oxidation processes, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis, and membrane bioreactors …

A Review Of Recent Investigations On Voltage Unbalance Management: Further Contributions To Improvement Of Iec/Tr 61000-3-13:2008, Jayatunga Vitharanage Upuli Priyadarshani Jayatunga, Sarath Perera, Philip Ciufo, Ashish Agalgaonkar Apr 2015

A Review Of Recent Investigations On Voltage Unbalance Management: Further Contributions To Improvement Of Iec/Tr 61000-3-13:2008, Jayatunga Vitharanage Upuli Priyadarshani Jayatunga, Sarath Perera, Philip Ciufo, Ashish Agalgaonkar

Dr Philip Ciufo

Voltage unbalance (VU) management in power systems essentially involves two major aspects: VU emission allocation at the pre-connection stage and compliance assessment at the post-connection stage of installations. This is a summary and a review paper on the recent investigations completed in relation to VU emission assessment techniques which provide further contributions to the improvement of IEC Technical Report IEC/TR61000-3-13:2008. Generalised approaches developed for the classification of different sources of unbalance at the point of evaluation (covering both radial and interconnected networks) and the evaluation of their individual contributions giving emphasis to the discrimination between customer and network responsibility on …

Review Of Four Novel Dosimeters Developed For Use In Radiotherapy, P Metcalfe, A Quinn, K Loo, M Lerch, M Petasecca, J Wong, N Hardcastle, M Carolan, J Mcnamara, D Cutajar, I Fuduli, A Espinoza, C Porumb, Anatoly Rosenfeld Jan 2015

Review Of Four Novel Dosimeters Developed For Use In Radiotherapy, P Metcalfe, A Quinn, K Loo, M Lerch, M Petasecca, J Wong, N Hardcastle, M Carolan, J Mcnamara, D Cutajar, I Fuduli, A Espinoza, C Porumb, Anatoly Rosenfeld

Anthony A Espinoza Mr

Centre for Medical Radiation Physics (CMRP) is a research strength at the University of Wollongong, the main research theme of this centre is to develop prototype novel radiation dosimeters. Multiple detector systems have been developed by Prof Rosenfelds’ group for various radiation detector applications. This paper focuses on four current detector systems being developed and studied at CMRP. Two silicon array detectors include the magic plate and dose magnifying glass (DMG), the primary focus of these two detectors is high spatial and temporal resolution dosimetry in intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) beams. The third detector discussed is the MOSkin which …

Review Of Solid-Liquid Phase Change Materials And Their Encapsulation Technologies, Weiguang Su, Jo Darkwa, Georgios Kokogiannakis Jan 2015

Review Of Solid-Liquid Phase Change Materials And Their Encapsulation Technologies, Weiguang Su, Jo Darkwa, Georgios Kokogiannakis

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Various types of solid-liquid phase change materials (PCMs) have been reviewed for thermal energy storage applications. The review has shown that organic solid-liquid PCMs have much more advantages and capabilities than inorganic PCMs but do possess low thermal conductivity and density as well as being flammable. Inorganic PCMs possess higher heat storage capacities and conductivities, cheaper and readily available as well as being non-flammable, but do experience supercooling and phase segregation problems during phase change process. The review has also shown that eutectic PCMs have unique advantage since their melting points can be adjusted. In addition, they have relatively high …

Effective Utilization Of Excess Energy In Standalone Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems For Improving Comfort Ability And Reducing Cost Of Energy: A Review And Analysis, M Ismail Ismail, Mahmoud Moghavvemi, T Mahlia, Kashem M. Muttaqi, S Moghavvemi Jan 2015

Effective Utilization Of Excess Energy In Standalone Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems For Improving Comfort Ability And Reducing Cost Of Energy: A Review And Analysis, M Ismail Ismail, Mahmoud Moghavvemi, T Mahlia, Kashem M. Muttaqi, S Moghavvemi

One of the features that characterize renewable energy sources is their variability and intermittency. Intermittency covers both the predictable and unpredictable variations of their power outputs and uncertainty in the power availability. To overcome the drawback of intermittency, special design considerations should be taken into account. These additional design considerations increases the overall cost of the renewable energy systems. Adding storage system and/or backup source to the renewable sources is one of the measures used to guarantee the continuity of power supply to the loads, and therefore improve the reliability of the renewable energy systems. The operation of renewable energy …
