The Consequences Of Incremental Reform And Institutional Dynamics On The Effectiveness Of Performance Management In United Kingdom Police Services., Gordon Marnoch, Karl Mcvicker, Ruth Fee
Gordon Marnoch
The paper argues that while performance management practices are much in evidence in contemporary police services, the perceptions and views of police officers and civilian staff discussed in this paper should give us pause in concluding that there has been a straightforward triumph of managerialist rationality over operational tradition in the use of policing resources. Evidence is drawn from an extensive study of police officers and civilian staff and their self-reported engagement with performance management systems in three large United Kingdom police services.

Impacts Of Banks' Reserves Restrictions On Macroeconomic Parameters Of Sudan (2007-2009), Professor Issam A.W. Mohamed
Professor Issam A.W. Mohamed
The paper analyzes the impacts of Islamic and conventional Banks reserves' restrictions in Sudan. Comprehensively, those restrictions are necessary for health banks, performance and the viability of the macroeconomic performance in any country. The selected period of the analysis (2007-2009) is vital to study impacts of the Global Financial Crisis on the Sudanese economy. The paper introduces available data on banks institutions, macroeconomic policies and the central Bank of Sudan considering its part on controlling money supply and demand besides drawing policies for banks behaviors. It is conceivable from my conclusions here that there are conflicts between conventional and Islamic …

Effects Of Investment On Macroeconomic Variables In The Sudanese Economy, Professor Issam A.W. Mohamed
Professor Issam A.W. Mohamed
Most developing and underdeveloped countries beside Sudan suffer from the low levels of income in addition to the low savings that are result from the lack of sophisticated savings channels. Hence, the investment depends on the individual's abilities on self savings, where the investment is considered as major motivating vehicle for economic activity due to its direct correlation with the capital accumulation process that increases the productivity capacity for the national economy and creating job opportunities and achieving economic development. Subsequently, the importance of the investment comes from effective role that can be practiced on the national product. The present …
Intent And Execution In The Construction Of Performance Stories By Police Services – The Annual Reports Of The Police Services Of Northern Ireland, New Zealand, Chicago And London Compared., Gordon Marnoch
Gordon Marnoch
Annual reports play a significant part in the process of governance. In addressing performance, the annual report will typically convey a sense of organizational identity, record achievements and explain key public service processes. The current dominance of new public management (NPM) approaches to measuring performance is of great significance in influencing how police services construct annual reports. For the reader of annual reports wishing to inform themselves about the performance of a public service organization the ‘story’ is of crucial importance. Considerable variation is found with respect to the four 'performance stries' examined.
Performance Stories A Comparison Of The Annual Reports Presented By The U.S. Department Of Veterans Affairs And The English National Health Service, Gordon Marnoch
Gordon Marnoch
Annual reports can contribute to the legitimacy of public service organizations in creating a favorable story around performance achievements. It is also the case that annual reports can have unintended consequences, provoking negative reactions on the part of their readers. Health services performance stories in the form of annual reports presented by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the English National Health Service between 2002 and 2005 are compared through a narrative analysis of structure and content. Conclusions are drawn as to the relative success each organization achieves in the telling of its performance story through annual reports. In …

Abstencionismo, Escolaridad Y Confianza En Las Instituciones Las Elecciones Federales De 2003 En México, Benjamin (Benny) Temkin, Rodrigo Salazar Elena
benjamin (benny) temkin
The 2003 midterm federal elections in Mexico reveal that municipalities whose populations score higher on educational attainment also exhibit lower voter turnout rates, thus contradicting an empirical regularity found in Mexico and in democracies, more generally. This article uses data from the 2000 and 2003 Latinobarometro surveys and panel data from the 2001-2003 National Survey of Political Culture and Citizen Practices (ENCUP) to explore the individual determinants of this aggregate finding. It argues that this municipal-level result is a product of the fact that more highly educated citizens reduced their levels of trust in political institutions. This study shows that …

Examining The Direction Of Imagery And Self-Talk On Dart-Throwing Performance And Self Efficacy, Jennifer Cumming, Sanna M. Nordin, Robin Horton, Scott Reynolds
Jennifer Cumming
The study investigated the impact of varying combinations of facilitative and debilitative imagery and self-talk (ST) on self-effi cacy and performance of a dart-throwing task. Participants (N = 95) were allocated to 1 of 5 groups: (a) facilitative imagery/facilitative ST, (b) facilitative imagery/debilitative ST, (c) debilitative imagery/facilitative ST, (d) debilitative imagery/debilitative ST, or (e) control. Mixed-design ANOVAs revealed that performance, but not self-effi - cacy, changed over time as a function of the assigned experimental condition. Participants in the debilitative imagery/debilitative ST condition worsened their performance, and participants in the facilitative imagery/facilitative ST condition achieved better scores. These fi ndings …
