This study examines the perceived credibility of professional photojournalism in context to the usage of User-Generated Content (UGC) when compared across digital news and social media platforms, by individual news consumers in the United States employing a Q methodology experiment. Bootstrapping Web Archive Collections From Micro-Collections In Social Media, Alexander C. Nwala

Computer Science Theses & Dissertations

In a Web plagued by disappearing resources, Web archive collections provide a valuable means of preserving Web resources important to the study of past events. These archived collections start with seed URIs (Uniform Resource Identifiers) hand-selected by curators. Curators produce high quality seeds by removing non-relevant URIs and adding URIs from credible and authoritative sources, but this ability comes at a cost: it is time consuming to collect these seeds. The result of this is a shortage of curators, a lack of Web archive collections for various important news events, and a need for an automatic system for generating seeds. …

This contentious relationship along with Venezuela’s ongoing political, economic, and humanitarian crises have resulted in a repressive government, hyperinflation, starvation, mortality, and mass emigration from the country. Based on the theory that international news coverage is influenced by the experiences and attitudes of people from different nations and regions, this study compared domestic and Latin American news coverage …

The Whole Truth: The Denominational Press Versus The Secular Press, Jennifer Goldsberry

Undergraduate Honors Theses

This thesis compares the reporting from The Boston Globe versus The Boston Pilot regarding the evolving story of sexual abuse perpetrated by Catholic clergy in 2002. Across all the articles, quotes from clergymen and victims, respectively, are counted, word choice and article placement are evaluated, and a ratio between staff articles versus articles from outside news organizations is created. Opinion editorials written by staff are also included in the analysis. All of these topics combine to determine the fairness, accuracy, and balance represented in the reporting of both publications.
