In October 2016, the Diversity Council of Libraries and Educational Technologies produced book displays in Carrier and Rose Libraries that focused on "Understanding Black Lives Matter." The council wanted to provide information on this social movement within the context of national history and racial identity. A list of books that covered topic areas of criminal justice, Jim Crow, racism, and the Black experience - among others - was generated, along with two informational placards. One placard placed the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement within historical and social context, while the other placard offered a preemptive response to the question "Why …

Fake news has been shown to spread far faster than facts on social media platforms. Rampant fake news has led to deep political polarization and the undermining of basic democratic institutions. Skepticism is an important component of information literacy and has often been pointed to as the antidote to the fake news epidemic. Why are skepticism and information literacy failing so terrifically in this post-truth era? The presenters will summarize research drawn from the fields of psychology and mass communication that shows just how hardwired people are to believe information from their own “tribes” and resist outside contrary information.

In 2015, ten Iowa and Nebraska academic library systems prepared to migrate to Alma and Primo. Simultaneous adoption of a common ILS was unprecedented in Iowa, and we knew this was an opportunity to forge stronger connections between our libraries, collections, and institutions. Representatives from each library began meeting to discuss shared goals and objectives, and they formed TRAC: the Two Rivers Alma Collaborative.
Four TRAC libraries already belonged to a small regional consortium, but the rest did not. Our parallel migration timelines provided a chance to leverage our common--if not shared--library platform. Discussions ranged from sharing a Primo environment …
