The ability to effectively manage cross-functional working relationships (CFRs) during innovation is a key success factor in developing successful new products. However, empirical evidence suggests that CFRs during new product development are often problematic, resulting in extremely poor relations between managers, and the development of unsuccessful new products. This paper adds to our existing knowledge on the Marketing/R&D CFR by examining the effects of structural factors, communication behaviours, and interpersonal trust on the dependent variable perceived relationship effectiveness. Our findings reveal that trust has potent positive, direct effects on this CFR. Further, bidirectional communication and quality of communication also have …

The effect of answer formats presented to respondents in written surveys are investigated for two constructs (attitudes and behavioral intentions) and three response scales (binary, ordinal and metric). Results indicate that (1) formats differ in their susceptibility to response styles but lead to the same results with respect to average values and underlying dimensions; (2) binary format is quicker to complete and perceived as quicker while all formats are perceived as equally simple, pleasant, and useful to express feelings; (3) an interaction between the construct measured and the answer format clearly exists which should be investigated more systematically in future …

This study examines the antecedents of effective working relationships between Marketing and R&D managers during NPD projects. Adopting both a structural and individual-level perspective, we examine the impact on relationship effectiveness of formalisation, centralisation, communication frequency and bidirectionality, and interpersonal trust between Marketing Managers and R&D Managers during NPD product development projects. Our hypothesised model is tested using a sample of 184 product development projects conducted in Australia, and our findings reveal two dimensions of interpersonal trust (cognition- and affect-based trust) are potent factors driving effectiveness during product development projects. A reconnaissance survey and exclosure experiment were carried out to examine the effects of Javan rusa deer on native flora and vegetation in Royal National Park on the southern outskirts of Sydney, Australia. Of 78 native plant species examined during the survey, only nine showed no evidence of vertebrate herbivory or physical damage and the majority of these plants were ferns and sedges. The other 69 species showed effects that included defoliation (young and/or old leaves), removal of shoots, bark-stripping, stem breakages and destruction or consumption of reproductive material. Intertidal encapsulated embryos may be synchronously exposed to many environmental stressors, but interactions between some of these factors remain poorly understood. Here, the effects of solar radiation and desiccation on embryonic mortality and developmental rates were assessed using laboratory and field experiments. Egg masses of 3 intertidal gastropod species were exposed for 72 h to combinations of spectral (full spectrum, UV-blocked, dark) and daily emersion treatments (control, 15, 30, 60 min). Siphonaria denticulata and Bembicium nanum embryos were expected to be tolerant to emersion and UVR as they are routinely deposited on exposed rock platforms. Contaminant concentrations in aquatic systems are seldom constant. Erratic inputs such as industrial discharges, rain water flushing, and random spills may cause concentrations to increase rapidly. Environmental processes may contribute through the dispersive actions of tides and currents, adsorptive losses to or release from resuspended sediments, and contaminant losses due to photo-degradation and volatilization. Despite such variability in contaminant concentrations, environmental guidelines are derived from toxicity test data using continuous exposure, where contaminant concentrations at the beginning of the exposure are assumed to remain relatively constant over the test duration. OBJECTIVES: To compare the pain threshold (the minimum pressure inducing pain) and pain tolerance (the maximum tolerable pressure) of different regions of the residual limbs of amputees by the indentation method and to evaluate the interface pressure distribution and distortion of the skin surface on indentation by finite element (FE) analysis. DESIGN: Crossover trial. SETTING: Rehabilitation engineering center. PARTICIPANTS: Eight transtibial amputees for indentation test and 1 for FE analysis. A coupled-channel Schrödinger equation (CSE) model of photodissociation, which includes the effects of all interactions between the , , and and the and states, is employed to study the effects of rotation on the lowest- band oscillator strengths and predissociationlinewidths. Significant rotational dependences are found which are in excellent agreement with recent experimental results, where comparisons are possible. New extreme-ultraviolet (EUV)photoabsorption spectra of the key transition of are also presented and analyzed, revealing apredissociationlinewidth peaking near .
