Leadership Development Through Athletic Experience, Antoine Grace

This qualitative research aims to find the relationship between athletics and leadership development by examining athletes' and nonathletes' students, life, leadership experiences, and learned behaviors. The research utilized a purposive sampling to recruit a diverse group of participants from the university that classify as either student-athletes or non-sport-playing students. The collection of data from participants has been conducted using semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis has been used to identify patterns and themes in the interview data, allowing for a meaningful understanding and interpretation based on aspects of athletes' and non-athletes' experiences. The purpose of this study was to examine the challenges athletic administrations face regarding Title IX compliance and strategies used to maintain compliance. This study will be narrowing the focus to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NCIS), focusing on athletic administrators, Title IX coordinator/Senior woman administrators, and women’s sport coaches. The results of this study will identify the challenges athletic administrations face with complying with Title IX in their respective schools, as well as how women’s sport coaches perceive that compliance to be fulfilled.

Preferred Leadership Styles Of Coaches: Collegiate Athletes’ Perception Of Quality Coaches, Paul Preston

The purpose of this study was to determine the most effective leadership styles judged by collegiate football athletes. Six participants were recruited from the team spanning over three grade levels. Data collection involved conducting semi-structured interviews. Data analysis revealed three main themes: (1) Leadership qualities (2) leadership styles and (3) and motivation. Results of the study support previous literature and participants preferred supportive style leadership as well as the qualities of accountability, leading by example and confidence. The implementation of these qualities and style of leadership may benefit a leader looking to improve relationships and trust with their followers.

This article describes the underlying theory and practice of a Distinctly Jesuit Approach to Athletics, which was represented at the 2016 Vatican Conference, Sport at the Service of Humanity. The approach has been developed and implemented in a collaboration between the Institute for Excellence & Ethics (IEE) and the athletics departments at Le Moyne College and The University of Scranton. Burnout is a concept that has been studied within the past 35+ years becoming widely known and recognized around 1980 in various disciplines ranging from the professional workforce, to athletic coaches, to youth sports. The first burnout study conducted within a sport setting focused on coaching burnout, and since then, new developments have occurred concentrating on athletes. Burnout is a term defined as a withdrawal from a particular sport noted by a reduced sense of accomplishment, devaluation or resentment of the sport, with proponents of physical and psychological exhaustion.
