Cybercrime and cybersecurity are emerging fields of research, shaped by technological developments. Scholars in these interconnected fields have studied different types of cybercrimes as well as victimization and offending. Increasingly, some of these scholars have focused on the ways in which cybercrimes can be mitigated, minimized, and even prevented. Teachers of undergraduate research methods classes may struggle at times to keep their courses engaging and to have students view the material as relevant to the occupations they will soon enter. This article discusses a content analysis assignment and how it offers a way for students to demonstrate critical thinking and acquire data analysis skills. This article describes a final research project for use in social research and/or sociology methods courses. The assessment is based in principles of project-based, cooperative, and process-oriented learning. The article includes a summary of the pedagogical frameworks that guide the assessment; a description of the assessment; instructions, rubrics, and materials for use in the classroom; and a plan for instructors to evaluate the effectiveness of the assessment.
