Digital Dilemmas: How The Backfire Effect And Echo Chamber Effect On Social Media Contribute To Political Polarization In The United States, Matthew O'Boyle
Gettysburg Social Sciences Review
This paper explores how social media contributes to political polarization in the United States by addressing two of the most common effects that social media users encounter: the backfire effect and the echo chamber effect. By using the results from previous studies on these topics, the two effects are synthesized to show how they collectively contribute to increased political polarization by widening the gap of political discourse between both ends of the spectrum. Organizations, Women, And Political Participation, Lindsey Juszczak
The Eastern Illinois University Political Science Review
The author considers the relationship between the percentage of women in state legislatures and the presence of organizations that encourage female participation in politics and the pursuit of higher office. Using a qualitative analysis of a number of states, the author finds areas of support for the hypothesis but also finds areas where other states can improve.

Posing radical challenges to structural inequality is the defining quality of the Left. What role electoral politics might play in such processes is a dilemma of radical politics, the contours of which vary by historical and national contexts. For the U.S. Left there is a distinctive aspect of the dilemma directly related to the failure of a "Left" party of even the most moderate social democratic type to take root, creating a seemingly never ending debate over the value if any of "third party" progressive organizing. "Eighteen Million Cracks": Gender's Role In The 2008 Presidential Campaign, Gregory S. Parks, Quinette M. Roberson

In light of the 2008 presidential campaign, Gregory S. Parks
and Jeffrey J. Rachlinski wrote an extensive analysis, titled A Better
Metric, likening the campaign to an interview process and hiring
decision for a high-ranking job. Though unpublished, their work
spawned a number of published articles, book chapters, and a book
on the role of unconscious race and gender bias in the evaluations of
President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, and Secretary
of State Hillary Clinton. In light of the analogy between voting and
hiring decisions, this article argues that questions about sexism and
gender bias along the campaign …
