Master's Projects and Capstones
Regardless of country and culture, the media has the power to influence the opinions and perceptions of its viewers. This project evaluates specific Korean movies—and the reactions of South Koreans to gender representations in films that are considered “feminist”—along with the variety show genre, which also tends to reinforce gender stereotypes and imbalances. With these media representations as a framework, this research explores the impact of the internet in forwarding feminist views along with unearthing the reactions of Koreans. Exploring Connections Between Social Anxiety And Social Media Use In College Students, Alexandra Deman
Exploring Connections Between Social Anxiety And Social Media Use In College Students, Alexandra Deman
Theses/Capstones/Creative Projects
When young adults enter college their identity and self-esteem are tested in a novel environment. Interacting, forming new relationships, having some sense of independence for the first time, and often living in a new area can take a toll on someone who has not sufficiently developed a stable identity. This, in-turn, may create a negative outlook on one’s self and the individual’s capabilities to participate in social interaction, or ultimately a desire to avoid them altogether. If such a negative view further intensifies and remains present, it may develop into social anxiety disorder. Social media can either alleviate or escalate …

People in different age-groups conserved media, tending to stick with the digital media they learned to use in earlier life stages. Approximately one-third of the participants were Networked Individuals: In each age-group, they were the …

The Internet of things (IoT), made up of a massive number of sensor devices interconnected, can be used for data exchange, intelligent identification, and management of interconnected “things.” IoT devices are proliferating and playing a crucial role in improving the living quality and living standard of the people. However, the real IoT is more vulnerable to attack by countless cyberattacks from the Internet, which may cause privacy data leakage, data tampering and also cause significant harm to society and individuals. Network security is essential in the IoT system, and Web injection is one of the most severe security problems, especially …

Illuminating Regulatory Guidance, Cary Coglianese
Illuminating Regulatory Guidance, Cary Coglianese
All Faculty Scholarship
Administrative agencies issue many guidance documents each year in an effort to provide clarity and direction to the public about important programs, policies, and rules. But these guidance documents are only helpful to the public if they can be readily found by those who they will benefit. Unfortunately, too many agency guidance documents are inaccessible, reaching the point where some observers even worry that guidance has become a form of regulatory “dark matter.” This article identifies a series of measures for agencies to take to bring their guidance documents better into the light. It begins by explaining why, unlike the …

This study contributes to this query, offering a new articulation of aesthetic education that draws on a discourse reaching back to Friedrich Schiller, while incorporating many contemporary theorists. The study suggests that the environmental crisis and the digital revolution are creating a perfect …
