From Worst To Best: Discovering Ir Best Practices And Planning For Change, Hedda Monaghan
From Worst To Best: Discovering Ir Best Practices And Planning For Change, Hedda Monaghan
ACRL New England Chapter Annual Conference
This poster presentation discusses how an institutional repository (IR) team at a mid-sized university discovered their best practices. A period of staff changes and shortages caused IR projects to slow-down almost to a halt due to a lack of clearly defined best practices. How and why IR projects faltered is explicitly discussed. This poster includes lessons from IR literature, with notes on adapting best practices from larger institutions to smaller institutions. How the concept of lab notebooks from the biological sciences can be incorporated to an IR workflow is demonstrated. Finally, the poster discusses working with an eclectic IR collection …

Crisis Philanthropy: Two Responses To The Pulse Tragedy In Orlando, Cindy T. Rizzo
Crisis Philanthropy: Two Responses To The Pulse Tragedy In Orlando, Cindy T. Rizzo
The Foundation Review
This article examines two philanthropic responses to the mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, on June 12, 2016, a tragedy that particularly impacted the region’s growing Latinx LGBT community.
The Central Florida Foundation’s Better Together Fund and the Our Fund Foundation’s Contigo Fund, while organized and operating in different ways, looked to best practices in crisis philanthropy and, in the wake of the massacre, provided the region with resources to address both short- and longer-term needs.
Better Together practiced strategic philanthropy focused on addressing systemic issues. Contigo lifted up new and diverse leadership from the grassroots. Each …

Best Practices In Global Mental Health: An Exploratory Study Of Recommendations For Psychologists, Kimberly Hook
Best Practices In Global Mental Health: An Exploratory Study Of Recommendations For Psychologists, Kimberly Hook
Dissertations
This qualitative study aimed to provide best practice recommendations for psychologists who work within the field of global mental health. Global mental health seeks to improve mental health treatment equity on a worldwide scale, through mechanisms such as task shifting, advocacy on a governmental/community/systems level, and through capacity building. Global mental health is a growing field, and there have been calls for increased engagement in these efforts from the psychological community. Nevertheless, few recommendations are in place regarding how to practically move towards these goals in an ethical, culturally-relevant manner, though other related disciplines, such as psychiatry and public health, …

Autoethnography Of A Whitegirl Marriage And Family Therapist's Experience Working On The Rez, Andrea L. Cuva
Department of Family Therapy Dissertations and Applied Clinical Projects
Despite the abundance of literature regarding potentially effective treatment modalities for Native American clients, researchers have been unable to identify an empirically proven effective treatment modality for this population. Common recommendations/considerations for therapists working with Native clients have been identified throughout literature; however, such findings were gathered by insiders (i.e., Native researchers or trained Tribal staff), which has left questions regarding the efficacy of such recommendations when applied by non-Native therapists. Due to Native American history, elaborate IRB requirements were put in place to ensure ethical research with this population but impedes the research process. I conducted an analytic autoethnography …

Health Literacy Best Practices In Policy Development, Stacie Lee Trueheart
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Low health literacy is a problem the U.S. faces and, like health care itself, is a complex issue stemming from patient demographics and the healthcare providers being very diverse. Tools have been developed to mitigate the risks of low health literacy, however, without formal policy. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore and compare commonalities in health literacy best practices of organizations that are recognized as leaders in health literacy and are addressing low health literacy in their communities. By comparing the organizations' abilities to implement standards of plain language and health literacy tools/guidelines, best practice and …
