The aim of this study was to examine the effects of alcohol and tobacco control policies on sales performance when two central elements of marketing, communication and promotion programs, are significantly restricted. The study took place in Thailand, which has some of the strongest tobacco control regulations in the world, along with moderately strong alcohol control regulations. Under these regulations, tobacco firms operate in a dark market, with near-total regulatory prohibition on advertising, promotion, and even the display of their products. We model the nonresponse probabilities as logistic functions ofthe outcome variable and other covariates in the survey sampling study withcallback. The identification aspect of this callback model is investigated. Semiparametricmaximum likelihood estimators of the parameters in the responseprobabilities are proposed and studied. As a result, an efficient estimator ofthe mean of the outcome variable is constructed using the estimated responseprobabilities. These appear to be worthwhile goals, but crafting trade policy to address them is difficult.

Root-N Consistency Of Intercept Estimators In A Binary Response Model Under Tail Restrictions, Lili Tan, Yichong Zhang

The intercept of the binary response model is irregularly identified when the supports of both the special regressor V and the error term ε are the whole real line. This leads to the estimator of the intercept having potentially a slower than √n convergence rate, which can result in a large estimation error in practice. This paper imposes addition tail restrictions which guarantee the regular identification of the intercept and thus the √n-consistency of its estimator. We then propose an estimator that achieves the √n rate. Finally, we extend our tail restrictions to a full-blown model with endogenous regressors.

This paper firstly extends the results of Phillips and Magdalinos (2007a) by allowing for anti-persistent errors in mildly explosive autoregressive models. It is shown that the Cauchy asymptotic theory remains valid for the least squares (LS) estimator. The paper then extends the results of Phillips, Magdalinos and Giraitis (2010) by allowing for serially correlated errors of various forms in local-to-mild-explosive autoregressive models. It is shown that the result of smooth transition in the limit theory between local-to-unity and mild-explosiveness remains valid for the LS estimator. Finally, the limit theory for autoregression with intercept is developed.

This essay considers the role of soft law in the interpretation and development of the ASEAN Charter. Such reliefs are distinct from stamp duty remissions, which may be granted by the Minister through the exercise of his powers under Sec-tion 74 of the Stamp Duties Act (Cap 312, 2006 Ed.). This research aimed to study the relationships between students’ future goals (FGs) and their immediate achievement goal orientations (AGOs) among 5733 Singaporean secondary school students (M age = 14.18, SD = 1.26; 53% boys). To this end, we hypothesized that the relationships between like valenced FGs and AGOs (both intrinsic or both extrinsic) will be stronger than those of opposite valenced FGs and AGOs (intrinsic–extrinsic) and tested two alternative models: Model A positing the prediction of AGOs by FGs and Model B positing the prediction of FGs by AGOs. This study investigates how discourses of multiculturalism shape publicdebates surrounding new migration in Singapore. Singapore’s immigration policiesled to the influx of Chinese and Indian professionals, many of whom share race andclass identities with local Singaporeans. However, Singaporeans of Chinese and Indianbackgrounds rejected these presumed similarities, using discourses of multiculturalismto differentiate themselves from co-ethnic migrants. Based on a content analysis ofnews reports and online forums, this study shows how local actors portrayed newmigrants as too prejudiced or bigoted to adapt to Singapore’s multiracial society,thereby creating a paradoxical application of multicultural ideals. Currently,the identification of decadal variability is limited by the lack of long-termmeteorological datasets; Singapore’s reliable contemporary network of automaticmeteorological stations (AWS) provides only about 30 years of rainfall data for thewhole island. In this study, rainfall data, sourced fromhistorical archives and recording monthly rainfall pre-dating the start ofofficial MacRitchie observations, are compiled from various locations acrossthe island. By making use of the contemporary AWS network, we evaluate thespatial relationship of rainfall between the historical sites and the currentMacRitchie site. Insight into assessors’ initial impressions has the potential to advance knowledge on how assessors form dimension-based judgments and on possible biases in these ratings. Therefore, this study draws on dual process theory to build and test a model that integrates assessors’ dimension ratings (i.e., systematic, slow, deliberate processing mode) with their initial impressions (i.e., intuitive, fast, automatic processing mode). Data collection started with an AC where assessors provided ratings of assessees, and an online survey of assessees’ supervisors who rated their job performance.
