The economics of climate change involves a vast array of uncertainties, complicating both the analysis and development of climate policy. This study presents the results of the first comprehensive study of uncertainty in climate change using multiple integrated assessment models. The study looks at model and parametric uncertainties for population, total factor productivity, and climate sensitivity. It estimates the pdfs of key output variables, including CO 2 concentrations, temperature, damages, and the social cost of carbon (SCC). One key finding is that parametric uncertainty is more important than uncertainty in model structure. Our resulting pdfs also provide insights on tail …

MOTIVATION: Thirty states are expanding Medicaid eligibility under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) as of 2015, and while federal funds cover most costs for newly eligible recipients, states must share the additional costs of covering previously-eligible state residents who enroll in Medicaid. States, together with their local government counterparts, also provide the vast majority (87%) of public sector funds for public health programs designed to promote health and prevent disease and injury on a population-wide basis. Fiscal constraints and generous federal matching funds create strong budgetary incentives for states to channel their health-related spending to Medicaid rather than to other …

The science and management of aquatic ecosystems is inherently interdisciplinary, with issues associated with hydrology, atmospheric science, water quality, geochemistry, sociology, economics, environmental science, and ecology. Addressing water resources issues in any one discipline invariably involves effects that concern other disciplines, and attempts to address one issue often have consequences that exacerbate existing issues or concerns, or create new ones (Jørgensen et al. 1992; Lackey et al. 1975; Straskraba 1994) due to the strongly interactive nature of key processes (Christensen et al. 1996). This paper explores the relationship between crime-related media consumption, shows about actual and fictional crime, internet-related problems, and the fear of crime. Our research proves that there is a direct relationship between crime-related media consumption, internet-related issues, and the fear of crime. The Chapman Survey of American Fears (Bader, 2014) identified fear of crime among various categories and included seventeen questions that were the subject of the key variables and were measured on a four point Likert scale. A series of questions directed at 1,573 respondents regarding the variables resulted in findings of positive correlations between crime-related media consumption and …

Research suggests that learners will likely spend a substantial amount of time looking at the model's face when it is visible in a video-based modeling example. Consequently, in this study we hypothesized that learners might not attend timely to the task areas the model is referring to, unless their attention is guided to such areas by the model's gaze or gestures. Results showed that the students in all conditions looked more at the female model than at the task area she referred to. The Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM a.k.a. SVG) is widely used to regulate dynamic reactive power and to solve dynamic voltage stability problems. Modeling shows that a cascaded STATCOM, which is composed of several cascaded H-bridges, not only has strong coupling characteristics when an LCL filter is added but it is also a non-linear, multivariable system. Therefore, its practical design and application are difficult to mplement. In this paper an internal decoupling control algorithm is introduced to provide independent control of the active and reactive currents. For the reliable design of fluidized dense-phase pneumatic conveying systems, it is of paramount importance to accurately estimate blockage conditions or the minimum transport boundary. Existing empirical models for the fluidized dense-phase conveying of fine powders are either based on a limited number of products and pipelines or have not been tested for their accuracy and stability over a wide range of scale-up conditions. Research has shown that sustainability of rural water infrastructure in developing countries is largely affected by the dynamic and systemic interactions of technical, social, financial, institutional, and environmental factors that can lead to premature water system failure. This research employs systems dynamic modeling, which uses feedback mechanisms to understand how these factors interact dynamically to influence long-term rural water system functionality.
