This research paper examines how China’s encroachment of the Spratly Islands has forced the Philippines to increase their dependency on bilateral defense agreements with the United States. Beginning with the significance of the Asia – Pacific in the 21st century and its key waterway, the South China Sea, this paper examines the Spratly Island dispute beginning in 1995 and continuing to present. Both China’s actions in claiming territory and the Philippines’ strategy of intensifying their ties with the U.S. are detailed throughout. Venecuba: An Analysis Of Cuban Influence In Venezuela And Its Support For The Bolívarian Revolution, James A. Cohrs

This research examines the profound Cuban-Venezuelan relationship and the immense influence Cuba has in Venezuelan politics and society. By looking at Cuban involvement in both the Venezuelan government’s social programs and the Venezuelan military, this study explores the degree to which Cuba can be held responsible for the longevity of “Chavismo” in Venezuela. In many ways, the implementation of Hugo Chávez’s “Bolívarian Revolution” and the survival of Nicolás Maduro’s government rest largely in the hands of the Cubans.

This paper explores the rise of ISIS in the realm of terrorist media and propaganda. It starts off by first examining trends and goals in terrorist use of media in the past, with emphasis on al Qaeda as a particular example. The main differences between al Qaeda and ISIS are reviewed, before a lengthy exploration of major examples of ISIS propaganda is given. Strategies in the use of social media are explored, as well as in-depth analysis of several issues from two online publications, the Islamic State Report and Dabiq. The Syrian conflict has affected over 12 million people in the past five years resulting in one of the most devastating forced migrations in global history. Through literature reviews and further research, this presentation will define the context that fostered the refugee crisis, as well as outline the current conditions experienced by refugees remaining in and outside of Syria.
