Navigating the immense quantity of information available today is a daunting task for most people. As librarians well know, resources available freely from the Internet are easy to search and access, however, not all information needs are satisfied by a Google search.
This book focuses on subdivisions that are of explicit value for researchers and librarians in the areas of theology, biblical studies, and pastoral ministry from the perspective of someone studying for Christian ministry or actively involved in ministry.

Learning Showcase 2014
The Franklin University Nationwide Library (FUNL) has long been considered a significant contributing resource to our university community. Yet, in spite of our high level of professional competence and credibility, we are reticent to “tell our story” or to promote to others the list of services we provide. This reluctance is rooted in the professional academic preparation and service ethic that characterizes librarianship.
Compelling contemporary trends in higher education mandate that all academic programs provide robust performance evaluation and verified and validated measures of Return on Investment (ROI). ROI is a technique for quantifying the extent to which investment in …

Learning Showcase 2014
Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) introduced digital images as part of its website nearly 10 years ago. The initial collection featured local artists, historical photographs, and newspaper articles. Since 2012, the collection has continued to grow to include nearly a dozen distinct repositories and hundreds of thousands of unique records. Furthermore, CML has created partnerships with local organizations to preserve Columbus’ unique and rich history.
In 2015, CML looks to further scale its digital collections. Through a grant, which provided specialized large format and a book scanner, CML will share historical photos and artifacts, many of which are generously provided by …

Libraries In Lean Times: Increasing Efficiency, Improving Services, And Cutting Red Tape, Melissa Clark, Mary Kraljic, Susan Sutthill
Library Conference Presentations and Posters
Developed by industry to refine their manufacturing processes, Lean principles can be equally effective when applied to library processes and procedures. Lean management aims to reduce waste (in terms of time, energy, and resources), streamline operations, increase efficiency, and maximize value for customers (or, in our case, patrons). In times of shrinking budgets and increasing patron demand for library services, these considerations are especially valuable. Evaluating and revising library processes and procedures according to Lean principles will result in less time spent on housekeeping duties and more time spent on projects that truly matter. This paper addresses the how’s and …

Interlibrary Loan Article Use And User Gpa: Findings And Implications For Library Services, Mitchell Scott
Faculty Creative and Scholarly Works
A recent institutional study at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay investigated the academic achievement of interlibrary loan (ILL) users as compared to non-ILL users. While this study provided important local insight into ILL use and the demographics of ILL users (class rank, major), it uncovered a rather minor overall GPA difference,.20 GPA points, between ILL users and non-ILL users. However, within these data was an interesting subset that once thoroughly investigated, provided rich details about ILL article use, the users who rely on ILL for articles, and the GPA differences between users across the spectrum of ILL article use. The …

Expatriate Japanese Families As Unexpected Users Of Public Libraries: A Case Study In A College Town Community In The United States, Ryuta Komaki, Fukuji Imai, Yukinori Okabe
University Libraries Presentations
This study explores the use of local public libraries by expatriate Japanese families staying in a micro-urban, university-centered community in the United States, with a specific focus on their reading and information gathering practices. The data used for the study was collected through semi-structured interviews the authors conducted in 2013. The expatriate families in this study consist of those who temporarily live in the area with clear prospects of returning to Japan. All of the families the authors interviewed included a member who was either a corporate transferee (i.e. an employee of a transnational corporation assigned to work in a …
