The preparation of free-standing carbon nanotube “buckypaper” (BP) membranes consisting of either single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) or multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs), and the antibiotic ciprofloxacin (cipro), is reported. The electrical, mechanical and morphological properties of these membranes have been characterised and are compared to those of the corresponding buckypaper membranes containing the surfactant Triton X-100 (Trix). Analysis of scanning electron microscopic images of the surfaces of SWNT/cipro and SWNT/Trix (Trix  =  Triton X-100) buckypapers revealed that the diameter of their surface pores was significantly smaller than that of the corresponding materials prepared using MWNTs. Similarly, the average internal pore diameter …

Analytical Solutions For Filtration Process Based On Constriction Size Concept, Vo Trong Nguyen, Cholachat Rujikiatkamjorn, Buddhima Indraratna

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

An analytical model is proposed to describe the filtration process applicable to a base soil-filter system. The Navier-Stokes equations for porous media are used to capture the hydrodynamic behavior, whereas, numerically, a new algorithm is proposed to solve the Navier-Stokes equation in a nonlinear form. The various mixtures of base soil particles eroded and water flow within the system are computed using the workenergy principle incorporating the constriction size of the filter. The model can assess the filtration process through the flowrate and the accumulation and redistribution of fine particles within the filter. By discretizing the base soil and filter domains …

99mtc-Dtpa Volume Of Distribution, Half-Life And Glomerular Filtration Rate In Normal Adults, Jennifer L. Holness, John S. Fleming, Alessandra Malaroda, James M. Warwick

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Assessment of volume of distribution (VD) and half-life (T1/2) values during glomerular filtration rate (GFR) investigations is a useful quality control check. The aim of this study was to derive reference data for VD and T1/2 and also to provide reference data for GFR fro studies performed using 99mTc-diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid.
