Kim Myers
Institutional Repositories are one way that libraries are fashioning the future. Buffalo State College and The College at Brockport will share their experiences over the past year with Digital Commons. From recognizing the need to populating the repository, we will share with you the ongoing opportunities and challenges we face.

A Tale Of Two Repositories: The Brockport Full Service Model, Kim L. Myers
Kim Myers
There are several models for staffing an Institutional Repository. This presentation discusses the full time manager - full service option that The College at Brockport has chosen. The importance of signature collections and communicating with your stakeholders are also discussed. You can view the presentation given by my fellow panelist, Joshua Beatty, from Plattsburgh here: http://digitalcommons.plattsburgh.edu/lis/3/ .

Let There Be Light! Indexing Items From Digital Commons In Apache Solr Via Oai-Pmh, Graham Hukill
Let There Be Light! Indexing Items From Digital Commons In Apache Solr Via Oai-Pmh, Graham Hukill
Library Scholarly Publications
To increase visibility and discoverability of assets in our Digital Commons repository, we have created a fully automated, regularly scheduled utility that, using the OAI-PMH protocol, indexes items from Digital Commons in the powerful, open-source search platform Apache Solr. Indexing metadata of items from Digital Commons allows us to support cross-collection, cross-database, and cross-platform searching for our patrons by integrating Digital Commons search results in library created search interfaces. This poster will provide a brief overview of Solr, outline the mechanics of this utility, and suggest how other institutions could harness this technique.

Library Faculty & Staff Publications
Much professional literature is devoted to developing content and faculty buy-in for institutional repositories. However, little is known about the end users of these repositories. The Utah State University Institutional Repository (IR) has reached a stage of maturity in which it is necessary to begin shifting our efforts from encouraging faculty buy-in to understanding our end-users and their needs. This presentation focused on: 1. how USU’s IR reached its mature stage, 2. the results of a brief survey of the end users of our repository, and 3. how these results have informed the further development of our IR.

Institutional Repositories, Joyce Rumery
Maine Policy Review
Joyce Rumery discusses the opportunities presented by participation in the “Digital Commons,” a national online service (institutional repository) that allows institutions to highlight the work of faculty and students and to provide a medium for managing and preserving items such as materials from special collections.

Reducing Barriers To Wesleyan Thought: Olivet Nazarene University And The Wesleyan Holiness Library, Craighton T. Hippenhammer
Faculty Scholarship – Library Science
Olivet Nazarene University’s recent move to start publishing academic scholarship in a digital institutional repository, Digital Commons, is a smart move to not only highlight and preserve Olivet scholarship, but also to support the worldwide open access movement that is widely expected to rescue the current failing model of academic publishing. The traditional methods for publishing faculty scholarship have been inadequate for some time, and the financial structures that sustain them are collapsing due to skyrocketing journal prices. What faculty members want most for their research is that it be as accessible, available and useful to other researchers and to …
