Synthesis Of Mn3o4-Encapsulated Graphene Sheet Nanocomposites Via A Facile, Fast Microwave Hydrothermal Method And Their Supercapacitive Behaviour, Li Li, Kuok Hau Seng, Zhixin Chen, Hua-Kun Liu, Ivan P. Nevirkovets, Zaiping Guo

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Well-crystallized Mn3O4-anchored reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanocomposites have been successfully synthesized via a facile, effective, energy-saving, and scalable microwave hydrothermal technique for potential application as supercapacitor material. Integrating these nanostructures resulted in a strong synergistic effect between the two materials, consequently leading to a hybrid composite with higher specific capacitance compared to the bare Mn3O4 nanoparticles. The results from different sorts of characterization indicate that the Mn3O4 particles were deposited and anchored on graphene sheets. The capacitance value of the rGO(31.6%)–Mn3O4 nanocomposite reached 153 F/g, much higher than that of the bare Mn3O4 (87 F/g) at a scan rate of …

A New Phase Unwrapping Algorithm Based On Three Wavelength Phase Shift Profilometry Method, Limei Song, Xiaoxiao Dong, Jiangtao Xi, Yanguang Yu, Chaokui Yang Dec 2012

A New Phase Unwrapping Algorithm Based On Three Wavelength Phase Shift Profilometry Method, Limei Song, Xiaoxiao Dong, Jiangtao Xi, Yanguang Yu, Chaokui Yang

Dr Yanguang Yu

Phase Shift Profilometry (PSP) method is widely used in 3D shape measurement. The advantage of the PSP method is that it is less sensitive to the surface reflectivity variations and the object can be measured point by point. But if only a single wavelength λ1 is used, the step height cannot be larger than λ1/4. In order to measure step height object, Gray Code (GC) and Multi-Wavelength Phase Shift Profilometry (MWPSP) method are used. But the GC method cannot solve the problem of the objects with a variety of colors under different illumination. The shortcoming of MWPSP …

Methodological Precision In Qualitative Research: Slavish Adherence Or “Following The Yellow Brick Road?”, John R. Cutcliffe, Henry G. Harder Oct 2012

Methodological Precision In Qualitative Research: Slavish Adherence Or “Following The Yellow Brick Road?”, John R. Cutcliffe, Henry G. Harder

The Qualitative Report

Qualitative research has withstood many challenges on its way to becoming a credible research paradigm, though it remains the case that the paradigm contains ongoing methodological debates. One such debate is, for want of a better expression, the necessity for methodological precision (fundamentalism or purity). While it is accurate that research methodologies are somewhat fluid in that they are refined over time, it is equally correct that some researchers fall into a trap in claiming such fluidity is the reason for their imprecise use of a research methodology. Given that scientific knowledge is inextricably linked to the practice of method …

Methods Of Analysis Of Illegal Immigration Into The United States, Vernon Briggs Mar 2012

Methods Of Analysis Of Illegal Immigration Into The United States, Vernon Briggs

Vernon M Briggs Jr

"A major barrier to the discussion of the scope and impact of illegal immigration on the American economy has been the inadequacy of existing data. Although data problems are not unique to this topic, the limited availability of macro-data on the size of the annual flows and of the accumulated stock of individuals as well as of micro-data on their influences on selected labor markets has been effectively used to forestall policy reform efforts."

Measuring And Recognizing The Value Of Purchased Goodwill: A Note On Market Value Measurement Method, Indra Abeysekera Jan 2012

Measuring And Recognizing The Value Of Purchased Goodwill: A Note On Market Value Measurement Method, Indra Abeysekera

Faculty of Commerce - Papers (Archive)

Through a review of literature and with conceptual underpinnings, this paper demonstrates that relying on the market value measurement method to ascertain value of purchased goodwill does not contribute to more accurate value of the financial worth of the firm.It argues that the use of market value for the measurement of purchased goodwill for recognition in financial statements is a mere artifact and a response to the contemporary paradigm rather than a measure of the accurate financial worth of purchased goodwill. It demonstrates the need to seek a measurement method that does not impose a transaction as a necessary precondition …

A Simple Post-Hoc Method To Add Spatial Context To Predictive Species Distribution Models, Michael B. Ashcroft, Kristine O. French, Laurie A. Chisholm Jan 2012

A Simple Post-Hoc Method To Add Spatial Context To Predictive Species Distribution Models, Michael B. Ashcroft, Kristine O. French, Laurie A. Chisholm

Faculty of Science - Papers (Archive)

Methods to incorporate spatial context into species distribution models (SDMs) are underutilised, with predictions usually based only on environmental space and ignoring geographic space. The goals of this study were to demonstrate a relatively simple post-hoc method to include spatial context in SDMs and to quantify the improvement over purely niche-based models. The method involved producing a standard niche-based model using established techniques, such as Maxent, and then calculating the neighbourhood average of the model output in geographic space. In effect, we tested whether the spatially averaged model output was better at predicting species distributions than the raw model output. …

Wavelet Transform Based De-Noising Method For Self Mixing Interferometry Signals, Yuan Sun, Yanguang Yu, Jiangtao Xi Jan 2012

Wavelet Transform Based De-Noising Method For Self Mixing Interferometry Signals, Yuan Sun, Yanguang Yu, Jiangtao Xi

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Self-mixing interferometry (SMI) signals are observed from a laser diode (LD) with optical feedbacks induced by an external target. SMI signals carry information related to both of the target and parameters of the LDs. However, the noise contained in SMI signals greatly degrades the applications of the SMI systems. This paper proposes a wavelet transform based de-noising method which can effectively eliminate noise while keeping an SMI waveform less changed. The proposed method is verified by both simulations and experiments

Parallel Computing Method For Intermodal Shipping Network Design, Zhiyuan Liu, Shuaian Wang, Qiang Meng Jan 2012

Parallel Computing Method For Intermodal Shipping Network Design, Zhiyuan Liu, Shuaian Wang, Qiang Meng

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

This study aims to improve the efficiency of design technique for intermodal shipping network design, by virtue of parallel computing system. The existing methods for maritime liner shipping network design are mainly dealing with port-to-port demand. However, a big portion of the customers of a liner shipping company locate in the inland part. Thus, a holistic analysis is necessary to deal with the inland OD pairs, where the transport mode-change from inland transportation to maritime shipping is involved. This paper first reviews a solution method for the conversion of inland OD demand to port-to-port demand. Due to the size of …

Momentum Balance Method And Estimation Of Boundary Shear Stress Distribution, Shu-Qing Yang, Nadeesha Chamini Dharmasiri, Yu Han Jan 2012

Momentum Balance Method And Estimation Of Boundary Shear Stress Distribution, Shu-Qing Yang, Nadeesha Chamini Dharmasiri, Yu Han

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Determination of local boundary shear stress is an important topic in hydraulic engineering. When attempting to determine this from a very thin boundary region, it is a difficult one because it requires special skills and instruments to treat the measured data. With the advent of new equipment, like the acoustic Doppler velocity profilers (ADVP), all the velocity profiles in the primary flow region can be simultaneously measured, and it is necessary to develop a new method to estimate the boundary shear stress using the primary flow data. This paper presents such a method called the momentum balance method (MBM). A …

A Real-Time In Vivo Dosimetric Verification Method For High-Dose Rate Intracavitary Brachytherapy Of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma, Zhen-Yu Qi, Xiao-Wu Deng, X Cao, Shao-Min Huang, Michael L. Lerch, Anatoly B. Rosenfeld

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Purpose: A real-time in vivo dosimetric verification method using metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) dosimeters has been developed for patient dosimetry in high-dose rate (HDR) intracavitary brachytherapy of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods: The necessary calibration and correction factors for MOSFET measurements in 192Iridium source were determined in a water phantom. With the detector placed inside a custom-made nasopharyngeal applicator, the actual dose delivered to the tumor was measured in vivo and compared to the calculated values using a commercial brachytherapy planning system. Results: Five MOSFETs were independently calibrated with the HDR source, yielding calibration factors of 0.48 ± 0.007 cGymV. …

Chain-Die Forming, Is It A Right Forming Method To Make Structural Parts Of Motor Vehicles With Uhss Material, Shichao Ding, Yuankun Zhang Jan 2012

Chain-Die Forming, Is It A Right Forming Method To Make Structural Parts Of Motor Vehicles With Uhss Material, Shichao Ding, Yuankun Zhang

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Reducing the body weight of a motor vehicle is one of the most important research approaches in car manufacturing and steel making industries in order to reduce the pollution caused by motor vehicles. In this approach, ultra-high strength steel (UHSS) is developed by steel makers and has been applied more and more to motor vehicles. The UHSS materials have the required strength, but more or less the material's ductility is sacrificed to achieve this target. High strength materials are difficult to form using conventional forming methods. Forming high strength materials to parts effectively and economically is a high priority. Chain-die …

Testing A Multi-Step Post-Ir Irsl Dating Method Using Polymineral Fine Grains From Chinese Loess, Xiao Fu, Bo Li, Sheng-Hua Li

Faculty of Science - Papers (Archive)

The potential of multi-elevated-temperature post-IR IRSL (MET-pIRIR) dating [Li, B., Li, S.H., 2011. Luminescence dating of K-feldspar from sediments: a protocol without anomalous fading correction. Quaternary Geochronology 6, 468-479] using polymineral fine grains (FG) (4-11 μm) is tested using loess samples from the Luochuan section in the Chinese Loess Plateau. Nine FG samples with ages within the last glacial-interglacial period are tested using the MET-pIRIR protocol. The MET-pIRIR results for FG are compared with both the coarse grain (63-90 μm) K-feldspar MET-pIRIR dating results and the coarse grain quartz OSL dating results. The stratigraphic age of the profile also provides …
