Collaboration In Supply Chain: A Multi-Agent Approach, Xin Li, Sim K. Lau Nov 2012

Collaboration In Supply Chain: A Multi-Agent Approach, Xin Li, Sim K. Lau

Dr Sim Kim Lau

Supply chain collaboration has become a critical success factor for supply chain management. Supply chain collaboration builds on information sharing, collaborative planning and execution. Many information systems have been developed for supply chain management. However, these systems do not sufficiently support collaborative supply chain. Recently, intelligent agent technology has received a great potential in supporting transparency in information flows and modeling the dynamic supply chain for collaborative supply chain. This paper explores the similarities between multi-agent system and supply chain to investigate the appropriateness of multi-agent based technology to model supply chain system and support collaborative supply chain planning and …

A Multi-Agent Approach Towards Collaborative Supply Chain Management, Xin Li, Sim K. Lau Nov 2012

A Multi-Agent Approach Towards Collaborative Supply Chain Management, Xin Li, Sim K. Lau

Dr Sim Kim Lau

Supply chain collaboration has become a critical success factor for supply chain management and effectively improves the performance of organizations in various industries. Supply chain collaboration builds on information sharing, collaborative planning and execution. Information technology is an important enabler of collaborative supply chain management. Many information systems have been developed for supply chain management from legacy systems and enterprise resource planning (ERP) into the newly developed advanced planning and scheduling system (APS) and e-commerce solutions. However, these systems do not provide sufficient support to achieve collaborative supply chain. Recently, intelligent agent technology and multi-agent system (MAS) have received a …

Law Enforcement Intelligence Recruiting Confidential Informants Within “Religion-Abusing Terrorist Networks”, Hursit Ucak Apr 2012

Law Enforcement Intelligence Recruiting Confidential Informants Within “Religion-Abusing Terrorist Networks”, Hursit Ucak

Theses and Dissertations

This study examines the motivation factors that make some individuals (terrorists) confidential informants. The study is based on the assumptions of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and Herzberg’s motivation-hygiene theories. Accordingly, main assumption of the present study is that some individuals with unsatisfied needs in religion-abusing terrorist (RAT) networks choose to become confidential informants to satisfy their predominant needs. The main hypothesis for the purpose of this study is “The individuals’ decision-making processes to cooperate with law enforcement intelligence (LEI) as a confidential informant is affected by some motivation factors during recruitment process.” The present study tests 27 hypotheses in order …

"Making Connections": Insights Into Relationship Marketing From The Australasian Stock And Station Agent Industry, Simon Ville Apr 2012

"Making Connections": Insights Into Relationship Marketing From The Australasian Stock And Station Agent Industry, Simon Ville

Simon Ville

Relationship marketing has received little attention from business historians who have favored the study of branding, associational advertising, market research, and the role of marketing agencies, particularly in relation to modern consumer manufacturing. Although the term relationship marketing is of recent origin, we analyze its practice under a different guise, "connections", over several centuries: we draw on the extensive archival evidence of a rural business services industry in Australia and New Zealand. Relationship marketing's emphasis upon close and enduring individual customer relationships mitigated uncertainty of performance and behaviour, on both sides of the transaction, created by a long and geographically …

Psychologically Realistic Cognitive Agents: Taking Human Cognition Seriously, Ron Sun, Sebastien Helie Jan 2012

Psychologically Realistic Cognitive Agents: Taking Human Cognition Seriously, Ron Sun, Sebastien Helie

Department of Psychological Sciences Faculty Publications

Cognitive architectures may serve as a good basis for building mind/brain-inspired, psychologically realistic cognitive agents for various applications that require or prefer human-like behavior and performance. This article explores a well-established cognitive architecture CLARION and shows how its behavior and performance capture human psychology at a detailed level. The model captures many psychological quasi-laws concerning categorization, induction, uncertain reasoning, decision-making, and so on, which indicates human-like characteristics beyond what other models have been shown capable of. Thus, CLARION constitutes an advance in developing more psychologically realistic cognitive agents.

Dynamic Change Impact Analysis For Maintaining And Evolving Agent Systems, Hoa Khanh Dam, Aditya Ghose Jan 2012

Dynamic Change Impact Analysis For Maintaining And Evolving Agent Systems, Hoa Khanh Dam, Aditya Ghose

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

In contrast to an increasing number of agent-based applica- tions in various domains, there has been very little work on maintenance and evolution of agent systems. This paper ad- dresses this gap with a focus on change impact analysis, i.e. estimating the potential eects of changes before they are made as an agent system evolves. We propose a technique for performing impact analysis in an agent system using dy- namic information about agent behaviour. Our approach builds a representation of an agent's behaviour by analyzing its execution traces which consist of goals and plans, and uses this representation to estimate …

Application Of Multi-Agent System For Preventing Power Interruption In A Large Power System, S R. Islam, Darmawan Sutanto, K M. Muttaqi Jan 2012

Application Of Multi-Agent System For Preventing Power Interruption In A Large Power System, S R. Islam, Darmawan Sutanto, K M. Muttaqi

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

This paper presents an emergency control approach for preventing wide spread power interruption using multi-agent system. The proposed control algorithm is based on decentralized architecture of intelligent agents to achieve fast and accurate response when a catastrophic disturbance is identified in the system. By dividing the network into several areas, the voltage instability problem can be localized and countermeasures can be directed to the most affected area by the authorized local agent. This facilitates quick decision making within the system. The effectiveness of the proposed technique has been proved by a simulation of IEEE 57 bus test power system.

A Multi-Agent Solution To Distribution System Management By Considering Distributed Generators, Fenghui Ren, Minjie Zhang, Darmawan Sutanto Jan 2012

A Multi-Agent Solution To Distribution System Management By Considering Distributed Generators, Fenghui Ren, Minjie Zhang, Darmawan Sutanto

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

A traditional distribution network carries electricity from a central power resource to consumers, and the power dispatch is controlled centrally. Distributed generators (DGs) emerge as an alternative power resource to distribution networks at a smaller and distributed scale, which will bring benefits such as reduced voltage drop and loss. However, because most of high penetration DGs are not utility owned and characterized by high degree of uncertainty such as solar and wind, the distribution network may perform differently from the conventionally expected behaviors. How to dynamically and efficiently manage the power dispatch in a distribution network to balance the supply …
