In this paper we report on two surveys and offer an introductory plan that librarians may use to begin implementing mobile access to selected library databases and services. Results from the first survey helped us to gain insight into where students at Utah State University (USU) in Logan, Utah, stand regarding their use of mobile devices for academic activities in general and their desire for access to library services and resources in particular. A second survey, conducted with librarians, gave us an idea of the extent to which responding libraries offer mobile access, their future plans for mobile implementation, and …

Working with younger staff and student employees can be a challenge for library supervisors in a multigenerational workplace. Because members of the Millennial Generation have different work expectations, managers need to adjust to best meet their needs. By surveying its five hundred student employees, Brigham Young University's Harold B. Lee Library has learned ways to avoid miscommunication due to generational differences and to better supervise and motivate student employees. The purpose of this paper is to explore the library survey results and results from other national surveys, and to share what was learned from student employees about the Millennial Generation …

Copyright Solutions For Institutional Repositories: A Collaboration With Subject Librarians, Heather Leary, Kacy Lundstrom, Pamela Martin
Copyright Solutions For Institutional Repositories: A Collaboration With Subject Librarians, Heather Leary, Kacy Lundstrom, Pamela Martin
Library Faculty & Staff Publications
This work investigates using subject librarians to conduct copyright clearance in an institutional repository (IR). At Utah State University, the library assures copyright clearance for faculty scholarship, thereby garnering input of faculty scholarship into the IR. Currently, subject librarians are not widely participating in routine IR work; however, the involvement of subject librarians with the IR offers benefits to the subject librarians and the institution as a whole. This article provides a model for institutions needing new solutions for copyright clearance using subject librarians and discusses the rationale, benefits and challenges of adopting this model.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Library at San Jose State University is a unique combination of both academic and public library. The academic library has a special place on the college campus in the United States; usually, it is centrally located on the university as a primary place of convergence. The King Library offers space for everybody’s use. This presentation provided information on the initial analysis for data collected in a study of the “library as place” and SJSU students' perceptions regarding their sense of belonging towards the King Library building. The study had three goals: 1) Learn about the …
