Catholic-Jewish Declaration On Sacred Places And Religious Freedom, Lawrence E. Frizzell D.Phil.

Attacks on persons and sanctuaries in many countries continue to be all too frequent. Representatives of the Holy See and the International Jewish Committee for Interfaith Consultations (IJCIC) crafted a declaration, which should be presented again to educators because in places the younger generation in North America, Israel, Libya and elsewhere has not been guided to respect the inherent dignity of every human being and the nature of holy places.

The Relative Importance Of Organizational Justice Dimensions On Employee Outcomes: A Critical Reanalysis Using Relative Weights Analysis, Scott J. Behson
The Relative Importance Of Organizational Justice Dimensions On Employee Outcomes: A Critical Reanalysis Using Relative Weights Analysis, Scott J. Behson
Organization Management Journal
This study examined the collected research on the four dimensions of organizational justice (i.e., distributive, procedural, interpersonal, and informational) by reanalyzing data taken from Colquitt, Conlan, Wesson, Porter & Ng’s (2001) meta-analysis. First, this study uses Relative Weight Analysis (RWA) to assess the relative predictive utility of the four justice dimensions on a set of employee outcomes; this analytic technique is better suited to examine this research question than traditional regression-based techniques. Second, this study examines how different operationalizations of procedural justice can lead to different patterns of results. For analyses using an expansive operationalization of procedural justice, the results …

Leadership Tactics: Enabling Quality Social Exchange And Organizational Citizenship Behavior, Unnikammu Moideenkutty, Stuart M. Schmidt
Organization Management Journal
We examined the relationship between leaders’ positive and negative influence tactics and their subordinates’ organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) directed toward them as well as the quality of the social exchange with them in westernized Middle Eastern organizations. In this study, we used data from 202 supervisor–subordinate dyads in the Sultanate of Oman. Our findings supported the hypothesis that positive leader influence tactics would be positively associated with affirmative social exchange (represented by a combination of leader–member exchange (LMX) and trust) and subordinates’ OCB directed toward supervisors. However, while negative leader influence tactics were related negatively to social exchange, they were …

Affective Organizational Commitment And Organizational Citizenship Behavior: Examining The Relationship Through The Lens Of Equity Sensitivity, Richard S. Allen, W. Randy Evans, Charles S. White
Organization Management Journal
The main purpose of this study was to test the relationship between affective organizational commitment (AOC), organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), and equity sensitivity, which heretofore has not been examined. Results revealed an interaction between AOC and equity sensitivity such that persons with an entitled orientation exhibited higher levels of OCB as their degree of AOC increased. Individuals with an entitled orientation and lower levels of AOC exhibited the lowest levels of OCB. This research suggests that organizations should focus on improving the level of AOC in order to increase the citizenship behavior of their entitled members. The moderating effect of …

Increasing globalization and the economic uncertainty inherent in the recent financial crisis have strained the already tenuous commitment of many employees, making followers’ perceptions of justice and trust more critical now than ever before in retaining a loyal workforce. A model of leadership, organizational justice, trust, and work outcomes such as commitment and satisfaction, similar to the one tested in the US, was extended to three countries in the so-called “Confucian Asian Cluster” in the Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness (GLOBE) study. Data were collected from executives in: Mainland China (N¼131), Singapore (N¼246), and Taiwan (N¼99). Results indicate that …

When Research Setting Is Important: The Influence Of Subordinate Self-Esteem On Reactions To Abusive Supervision, James P. Burton, Jenny M. Hoobler, Mary C. Kernan
Organization Management Journal
In this paper, we argue that the conflicting theoretical views regarding the role that self-esteem plays in the decision to become aggressive can be explained by the particular research methodology used. Specifically, we examine how individuals respond to a perceived abusive supervisor in two settings: (1) using scenarios and (2) in a field study. Results indicate that individuals with high selfesteem are more likely to become aggressive in response to an abusive supervisor in settings where they are asked what they would do (using scenarios). However, in field research settings, where they are asked what they did do, individuals with …

Some Issues In Compensation Management: Two Case Studies For Teaching, Rajiv Kumar, Jacob D. Vakkayil
Organization Management Journal
We report our experiences of teaching compensation management using two short case studies that we developed to help students examine key concepts in an integrated manner. We note that cases anchored in the socio-economic context can evoke deeper discussions due to participants’ contextual familiarity. We also highlight the role of instructors in directing class discussions to relevant themes in a creative manner so that participants can see less obvious issues and interconnections among issues.

Top-Level Communication: Behind The Scenes With Famous French Spin Doctor Jacques Seguela, Christophe Haag, Jean-Francois Coget, Tessa Melkonian
Organization Management Journal
This article explores the practice of spin doctoring through the point of view of a practitioner and possible differences between France and America in that practice. We do so by reporting and analyzing an exclusive interview with famous French spin doctor Jacques Seguela, VP of Havas, one of the world’s largest advertising and communications groups. Seguela was involved in 20 political campaigns in France and abroad, advising, among others, French President Francois Mitterrand in 1981, and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barack in 1999. He still advises a number of politicians and top-level executives worldwide. In the interview, Seguela talks about …

Knitting Together The Strands Of My Life: The Secret Pleasure That Trans/In/Forms My Work, Robbin Derry
Organization Management Journal
The craft of knitting serves multiple apparent purposes, from the construction of warm garments to engagement in the mathematical calisthenics required to master both design and fit. But this academic knitter finds satisfactions that are not so apparent to the observer, although they are profound and vital. As knitters gain in proficiency, they may also grow more self-confident, more generous, calmer, and more subversive. As knitting is integrated into one’s life, the process and products may become the outward expression of attitudes, emotions, and aspirations, well before these are articulated in words. The work of professors is nearly always expressed …
