Teaching Sustainable Development Through International Public Service: Lessons From The Sustainable Chiapas Program, Marco Tavanti

The presentation includes a SWOT analysis of an international public service program learning sustainable development and poverty reduction. The paper/presentation compares and contrasts the pedagogies, methods and outcomes on students and community projects connected with the sustainability Chiapas program in Mexico. The analysis illustrates effective pedagogical strategies for achieving professional learning while developing sustainability and organizational capacity in developing countries.

College and university students, staff, and faculty are busier in 2010 than ever before. Many students work full-time in addition to school. With budget cuts, staff members are doing multiple jobs. Faculty members are being hired as fixed-term, temporary, or adjunct instructors more than ever. People do not come to the library as much as they used to, and they are often in a rush when they do.
