Conyers-Rockdale Library Celebrates Start Of Construction

The article reports on the ground breaking ceremony for the long-delayed renovation and expansion of the Conyers-Rockdale Library in Georgia held on October 2, 2008. The library will continue its operation during the construction process, which is expected to conclude in the spring of 2010. It describes the features and facilities of the library. David Moore with Craig, Gaulden and Davis Architects designed the library building.

The article reports on the opening of the Library Technology Center at North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega to crowds of students, faculty, staff and community members on August 19, 2008. A brief overview is given on the history, graduate programs, and student population of the university. The college library needed more and better seating and public computing, library instruction spaces and collection space. These factors, combined with limited Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility and inadequate electrical, lighting and life-safety systems, created a compelling case for a library building project.

Small Spaces, Small Budget, Big Results: Creating A User-Centered Learning Space On A Budget, Louise L. Lowe, Roylee Cummings

The article presents information on academic libraries that can create a user-centered learning space for library users with limited resources. It notes that students desire user-centered facilities that encourage learner participation and social engagement. It reveals the findings of an online open-ended survey which investigated the needs of library users. Information is given on some of the ways accomplished at minimum cost including, reuse furniture, reuse more furniture, rearranging furniture, and adding some color to the facility.

Tifton-Tift County Public Library Breaks Ground

The article reports that Tifton-Tift County Public Library, a member of the Coastal Plain Regional Library system, has broke ground on its expansion/renovation project in Georgia on November 6, 2008. The public library has completed environmental abatement and some demolition. The renovation project will amount $3 million and is expected to be completed in December 2009.
