Patronizing Speech In Interability Communication Toward People With Cognitive Disabilities, Vann Morris

Some people without disabilities may use patronizing speech when they talk to people with cognitive disabilities. This study asked college-aged students without disabilities to evaluate patronizing speech toward people with cognitive disabilities. They randomly read either one of two vignettes; in one vignette a cashier with no disability used patronizing speech toward a customer with a cognitive disability, and in the other vignette a cashier with no disability used nonpatronizing speech toward a customer with a cognitive disability. The participants evaluated the patronizing speech as being significantly less professional, appropriate, and common than the nonpatronizing speech. They rated the cashier …

The purpose of this study was to discover and assess student financial services delivered to students enrolled at East Tennessee State University. The research was undertaken for institutional self-improvement. The research explored changes that have occurred in student financial services in the dynamic higher education market. The research revealed universities pursued best practices for the delivery of student financial services through expanded employee knowledge, restructured organizations, and integrated information technologies.

The Great Depression and the years leading up to World War II forever changed American society. The debilitating effects of the Depression “produced a profound shaking-up of American Society,” wrote Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr. (1) Economic instability, an evolving national politic, and the growing threat of another world war, all combined to catapult the United States from what it was into what it became. No one was entirely immune. The transformation affected all regions of the country politically and all segments of the population. Maintaining Quality Feedback In The Face Of Increasing Student Numbers, Simon B. Bedford

This study sought to use new and more effective methods of formative feedback to students within the context of Chemistry teaching in order to facilitate student learning. Emphasis was placed on the use of student directed assessment, and in particular, the use of student self- and peer-assessment. During semester 2 of the 2005-06 academic year, a cohort of some 100 Chemistry students and 33 Natural Sciences students attended a series of problem-based workshops designed to test self- and peer- assessment methods.
