An Empirical Investigation Of A Model Of Environmentally Concerned Consumer Behavior And Its Determinants: The Moderating Role Of Market Mavenship And Product Involvement, Kishwar A. Joonas
Doctoral Dissertations
Extant literature offers incomplete explanations of environmentally concerned consumer behavior (ECCB), based on subsets of determinants. In this study, I have presented an integrated model of ECCB, and examined the main effects of three key psychological determinants (environmentally concerned beliefs and attitudes, personal norm, and perceived consumer effectiveness) and two key socio-cultural determinants (injunctive norm and collectivist orientation), on four dimensions of ECCB, namely purchase behavior, search for information, conserving behavior, and supporting intent. The study also examined the interactional effects of market mavenship and involvement on these direct linkages.
I conducted a national online survey among members of environmental …

Connecting Diversity To Management: A Study Of Career Development Patterns Of Library Managers In Selected Arl Member Libraries And Arl Lcdp Participants, La Loria Konata, Tim Zou
University Library Faculty Presentations
This study focuses on diversity in library management. The impetus for our study is based on Thomas and Ely’s Paradigms for Managing Diversity. The first paradigm addresses the “discrimination-and-fairness” issues in business management and measures success in diversity initiatives in terms of how well a company does in recruitment and retention of minority employees. This paradigm aims to increase the number of minorities employed and correct any discrimination and unfairness in the hiring and promotion process. The Spectrum Scholars Initiative is a good example of this. The second paradigm focuses on the aspects of “access-and-legitimacy” of workforce diversity. Employees are …

The Inside Game Race, Power And Politics In The Nba, Wayne Embry, Mary Schmitt Boyer
University of Akron Press Publications
Wayne Embry went from being an All-Star basketball player at Miami University to an NBA Executive of the Year. In his new autobiography, The Inside Game, Embry chronicles his 40 years in The National Basketball Association (NBA) and discusses the problems threatening to undermine it. Embry, who was once sent home from a game in the old Richfield Coliseum when a bullet was found on his seat, tells the inside story of his fall from grace.
Prejudice is nothing new to Embry, a pioneer who became the first African American general manager in sports when the Milwaukee Bucks named …

Identification Of Key Predictors Of Rapid Change Adaptation In A Service Organization: An Exploratory Study That Also Examines The Link Between Rapid Change Adaptation And Organizational Capability, Carol D. Hansen, Constantine Kontoghiorghes
Andrew Young School of Policy Studies Faculty Publications
This exploratory study attempted to identify key predictors of rapid change adaptation in a service organization. The results of this study suggested that rapid change adaptation would be more likely to occur in an organizational setting within which there is an emphasis on process and quality improvement, innovation, rapid technology assimilation, and internal customer focus. Rapid change adaptation was in turn found to be highly associated with the following organizational outcomes: quick product/service introduction, quality performance, productivity, and competitiveness.

New technologies affecting work and organizational design, unclear work functions and roles, communication problems, cross-cultural management problems, lack of knowledge transfer and industrial disputes - the catalogue of problems that affect the Australian film Industry (AFI) in general reads like a curriculum in the management discipline. Management and organizational studies have obviously neglected the film production industry and only few established management research programs tackle the film industry (Blair 2000, Cunningham 2002, Starkey, Barnatt & Tempest 2000). This project investigates projects in the AFI from a management perspective, with the objective to develop a theoretical framework and evaluate various management …

As a Keynote Address at the 2004 Nature Conservation Council Conference, Bushfire in a Changing Environment - New Directions in Management, this paper argues that the landscape is a template with biodiversity assets, and human assets and bushfires overlaid. Two case studies, the Greater Glider and Eastern Bristlebird, are used to illustrate how the impact of bushfire on a species is contingent on it is distributed in the landscape, relative to the locations of its remnant habitat. Mitigation of bushfire effects, using fuel-reduction programs, is a process that also needs to be considered at a landscape scale, and has the …

The Myth Of Charismatic Leadership And Fantasy Rhetoric Of Crypto-Charismatic Memberships, Shaun Robert Treat
The Myth Of Charismatic Leadership And Fantasy Rhetoric Of Crypto-Charismatic Memberships, Shaun Robert Treat
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
This study will analyze the relationship between myth and the fantasy rhetoric of charismatic leadership by employing Fantasy Theme Analysis to examine the pervasive discourses invoking this enduring folk belief. Fantasies of the Charismatic Superhero are explored within the popular leadership treatises of successful “management gurus” and in our popular culture entertainments. The rhetorical visions of Stephen Covey’s “Principle-Centered Leadership,” Jim Collins’ “Level 5 Leadership,” and Manz and Sims' “SuperLeadership” are examined for their displacement of charismatic leadership in favor of the empowered crypto-charisma of self-leading memberships. Findings suggest “empowerment” rhetorics, like the rhetorical visions championed by many populist “gurus,” …
