Recommender Systems For Multimedia Libraries: An Evaluation Of Different Models For Datamining Usage Data, Raquel Oliveira Araujo

Computer Science Theses & Dissertations

Many recommender systems exist today to help users deal with the large growth in the amount of information available in the Internet. Most of these recommender systems use collaborative filtering or content-based techniques to present new material that would be of interest to a user. While these methods have proven to be effective, they have not been designed specifically for multimedia collections. In this study we present a new method to find recommendations that is not dependent on traditional Information Retrieval (IR) methods and compare it to algorithms that do rely on traditional IR methods. We evaluated these algorithms using …

An Online Guide To Walt Whitman's Dispersed Manuscripts, Katherine L. Walter, Kenneth M. Price

UNL Libraries: Faculty Publications

Museum and Library Services, the University of Nebraska– Lincoln and the University of Virginia embarked on a project to create a unified finding aid to Walt Whitman manuscript collections held in many different institutions. By working collaboratively, the project team is developing a finding aid that is tailored to the needs of Whitman scholars while following a standard developed in the archival community, encoded archival description (EAD). XSLT stylesheets are used to harvest information from various repositories’ finding aids and to create an integrated finding aid with links back to the original versions. Digital images of poetry manuscripts and descriptive …

GeogDL is a digital library of geography examination resources designed to assist students in preparing for a national geography examination in Singapore. We describe an interactive learning environment built into GeogDL that consists of four major components. The practice and review module allows students to attempt individual examination questions, the mock exam provides a simulation of the actual geography examination, the trends analysis tool provides an overview of the types of questions asked in previous examinations, while the contributions module allows students and teachers to create and share knowledge within the digital library.

"If You Build It, Will They Come? Access To Arl Members' Digital Libraries, Chad M. Kahl, Sarah Williams, Jan Johnson

Faculty and Staff Publications – Milner Library

Illinois State University's Milner Library began discussion on managing digital resources in September 2023 in an effort to take the lead in coordinating storage, cataloging and retrieval of digital projects across campus, while also encouraging the development of new digitization projects. At the start of the process, before full implementing a digitization program, the Library wanted to ensure efficient access to and integrated searching capabilities for new digital projects.

We surveyed Association of Research Libraries' (ARL) academic libraries to gather data on the accessibility of their digital projects. We chose to examine ARL libraries because larger university libraries have taken …

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation (ETD) digital libraries are being developed worldwide. Higher education organizations commonly collaborate in these efforts by forming consortia. Some of the existing consortia are at the national level while others are at regional levels. NDLTD (Networked Digital Library for Thesis and Dissertations) is an initiative that is creating an international consortium which includes organizations or other ETD consortia in various countries. Consortia are important because they create an opportunity to collaborate, to share experiences, and to establish or adopt standards that guarantee interoperability among participant ETD digital libraries. However, developing consortia is challenging since it requires …
