In the past the majority of occupations were very clearly divided into 'men's work' and 'women's work' and such attitudes persist today. The man who crosses over into an occupation traditionally considered to be a female occupation upsets society's gender assumptions. Intercountry Adoptive Families In Western Australia: The Well-Being Of Their Four To Sixteen-Year-Old Adoptees, Trudy Rosenwald

The study investigated the well-being of 283 four to sixteen-year-old intercountry adopted (ICA) children in general and in relation to two specific adoption variables. The sample represented 80% of the estimated 4-16 year old ICA population of Western Australia (W A). Well-being was defined in terms of competence, happiness, health and problem behaviours. The primary source of information was Achenbach's parent reported Child Behavior Check List (CBCL) as used by the Western Australian Child Health Survey (WACHS). In 1988 the Department of Corrective Services established an AIDS Standing Committee to draw up an HIV positive/AIDS policy. The Committee consists of ten members, two of whom are union members who represent the issues that concern 1,227 prison officers statewide. The Policy which was issued in 1989 medically isolated HIV positive prisoners from the mainstream prison population. In consideration of the relationship between work and retirement, this study examines what a feminist perspective on women's experience of work can contribute to the androcentric conception of retirement. Women have participated in policing in Western Australia for seventy five years. The first two women were employed as “Police Matrons” in roles which were restricted to what were thought to be the “feminine” tasks of dealing with female offenders, families and wayward youth, and providing clerical support to male officers. Yirra is a residential treatment program for young people who are experiencing problems associated with their substance use. The design of this program was influenced both by consultation with other youth services, and by current literature and theories regarding the most effective approaches to delivery of youth substance use services.
