Research provides a vast amount of information detailing the learning styles and preferences of learners and the influence of one's culture on that individual's perceptions of the world. Little of that research, however, has been applied to studying the effects of culture on the learner's perceptions of teacher and student roles, specifically in the area of second language learning. What is available often appears in the form of anecdotal descriptions of teaching and learning experiences abroad.
