Singing Schools In Southcentral Kentucky, Donald Beisswenger
Singing Schools In Southcentral Kentucky, Donald Beisswenger
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Singing school teachers, who teach rural church congregations to sing from shape-note gospel songbooks, are still working in southcentral Kentucky, but the demand for them is smaller than it was in the first half of the twentieth century. Many gospel music enthusiasts who once looked to songbooks as a major source for new material and for developing singing skills turned …

“When Saint Peter says to me, ‘You ready?’ I’ll say, ‘Wait ’til I git my tray.’ ...Seems to me I grew right up in that hotel racket. I don’t hardly know what ’tis to be tired. One day a fellow at Shawmut said, ‘Gladys, you don’t look like yourself. Are you well?’ I said, ‘What the hell are you talkin’ about? I can outwork any three people you have.’” — Gladys Hutchins McLean

The personnel of Dinosaur National Monument, a unit of the National Park Service, are responsible for the protection of natural and cultural resources within its boundaries. A Cultural Resource Management Plan (CRMP) is currently being designed in Dinosaur to aid in the preservation and protection of cultural resources. Prior to this time, there has been no specific management plan for cultural resources within the monument. As an adjunct to the CRMP, an archeological inventory and monitoring plan has been developed by …

Sex Differences In The Recognition Of Infant Facial Expressions Of Emotion: The Primary Caretaker Hypothesis, Raymond B. Hames, Wayne A. Babchuk
Department of Anthropology: Faculty Publications
Although much research has been devoted to studying sex differences In functioning (e.g., Maccoby and Jacklin 1974), most efforts have been directed toward documenting or elucidating the proximate causes of sex differences. Few attempts have been made, however, to explain the ultimate causes of these differences or the selective pressures that have led to the development or psychological differences between males and females [for exception see Symons (1979) and Daly and Wilson (1983)]. Toward this end of blending psychology with evolutionary theory we develop what we call the " primary caretaker hypothesis," which predicts that the sex that through evolutionary …
