The Need and The Purpose
Introduction
As the earth has become more densely populated, an understanding of the space relationships between man and his environment has become essential. In particular, man needs to understand the complex interrelationship between places, and the distinctive character of places.
Major functions of geographic instruction are to guide students into discovering the distribution of physical conditions, and the interrelationships which characterize such places, as well as those between man and his environment. No other discipline attempts to discover the wholeness, order and reason in the complex totality of the landscape.
