Initial Implementation Of The Arc Model In A Residential Treatment Center : A Program Evaluation, Melyssa Sweet
Initial Implementation Of The Arc Model In A Residential Treatment Center : A Program Evaluation, Melyssa Sweet
Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)
Since its inception, residential treatment has been expected to continuously evolve and adapt. Most recently, change in the field has revolved around accountability and the incorporation of evidence-based practices. Among those practices include trauma-informed approaches as an effort to meet the ever-changing and increasingly significant needs of youth in care. Although randomized control-trials remain the gold standard for demonstrating effectiveness in residential treatment remains, program evaluation has been acknowledged as a more viable assessment tool.
An Empirically-Supported Model Of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder In Maltreated Youth, Adrianna Wechsler
An Empirically-Supported Model Of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder In Maltreated Youth, Adrianna Wechsler
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Posttraumatic stress disorder in maltreated youth is a young and burgeoning field. Lemos-Miller and Kearney (2006) were among the first to propose and test a theoretically and empirically-based model of PTSD in maltreated youth. The present study replicated and evaluated the Lemos-Miller and Kearney model within a larger and more diverse sample of maltreated adolescents. First, the Lemos-Miller and Kearney model was tested via structural equation modeling (SEM). Second, the model was evaluated across age, gender, and ethnicity. Third, trauma history, family environment (i.e., cohesion and conflict), dissociation, and trauma-related cognitions were evaluated as potential mediating variables within the model. …
Resilience And Trauma In Maltreated Youth, Timothy Day
Resilience And Trauma In Maltreated Youth, Timothy Day
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Research into resilience represents a theoretical shift from the medical model in contemporary psychology to a focus on adaptation (Poulou, 2007). The relationship however between resilience and the development and PTSD in children remains unclear. The purpose of this present study is to expand on this research by investigating resilience and adaptability with respect to Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptoms across maltreated youth of different ethnicities at risk for PTSD. Participants will be recruited from a Department of Family Services (DFS)-affiliated clinic in the Las Vegas area and administered the Children's PTSD Inventory (CPTSD-I), Behavior Assessment System for Children-2 Parent …
In Their Own Words : A Comparative Study Of The Attachment Experiences Of Special Needs Adoptive Families, Colette Lynn Duciaume-Wright
In Their Own Words : A Comparative Study Of The Attachment Experiences Of Special Needs Adoptive Families, Colette Lynn Duciaume-Wright
Theses, Dissertations, and Projects
The purpose of this study was to examine the ways in which adoptive families are able to form attachments with children who have suffered trauma (abuse and neglect) and instability (multiple moves, school changes and people who come and go). The question that this study attempted to answer is: How do families describe the process by which attachment is re-organized in successful special needs adoptions? This study was part of a large-scale nation wide study (AdoptUSKids) conducted by Dr. Ruth McRoy, Ph.D. and was funded by the U.S. Children's Bureau . One hundred sixty one successful adoptive families who adopted …
Foster Children In Schools : Understanding And Addressing Challenges Through Trauma Theory And Systems Theory : A Project Based Upon An Independent Investigation, Nicole C. Guertin
Foster Children In Schools : Understanding And Addressing Challenges Through Trauma Theory And Systems Theory : A Project Based Upon An Independent Investigation, Nicole C. Guertin
Theses, Dissertations, and Projects
Foster children face a range of difficulties in the school setting, yet the solutions that are most frequently proposed to remedy these issues place the responsibility for improvement in the hands of child welfare workers and the larger social service system. This thesis suggests a model for understanding, analyzing, and addressing the challenges experienced by foster children in schools through the frameworks of trauma theory and systems theory. Trauma theory is used to consider the trauma-related symptom formation that appears in the school setting with an emphasis on understanding the affect beneath the behavior. Systems theory is used to consider …

Like A Banana Tree : Towards A Model Of Children In Disasters : An Exploration Of An Anthropological Problem, Jennie Anne Ricarda Marten
Like A Banana Tree : Towards A Model Of Children In Disasters : An Exploration Of An Anthropological Problem, Jennie Anne Ricarda Marten
Theses : Honours
There is currently an emerging literature on the anthropology of disasters, and also an emergent literature on the new anthropology of childhood and children. Despite an extensive search, no significant body of literature on the anthropology of children in natural event based disasters could be found. A central focus of this thesis will be interrogate this gap through a documentary search, to ascertain what factors might influence the absence of children in the anthropology of disasters. To achieve this, the study defines and conceptualizes both the anthropology of disasters and the anthropology of children. Recent research shows that children are …
