Bipartisn Bills From Caucus Collaboration: Solutions To Polarized Or Non-Polarized Issues?, Kaitlin Holden
Bipartisn Bills From Caucus Collaboration: Solutions To Polarized Or Non-Polarized Issues?, Kaitlin Holden
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
This paper investigates whether caucus members pursue bipartisan collaboration on bills related to polarized or non-polarized policy issues. The aim is to determine whether caucuses may be used to pursue bipartisan solutions to major policy issues in an increasingly polarized political environment. I model the effect that the presence of a women’s caucus has on bipartisan collaboration in increasingly polarized legislatures, depending on whether a bill’s title contains words related to polarized issues and its overall sentiment. Findings indicate that bipartisan women may be more likely to collaborate on polarized bills then non-polarized bills in legislatures with a women’s caucus …
Creative Collaboration In Rural Texas Communities, Kathryn May Lattimore Norris
Creative Collaboration In Rural Texas Communities, Kathryn May Lattimore Norris
Public Affairs Dissertations
The body of research investigating collaboration has grown exponentially in recent years with the realization of its potential in generating innovative solutions to complex problems. Even though an abundance of literature on collaboration exists, scholars have fallen short of understanding how collaboration works towards creativity. Lack of consensus on understanding how this critical construct functions has not only made furthering theory on the matter challenging for researchers, but also made recognizing, utilizing, and realizing the full benefit of collaboration difficult for practitioners. Until the ways collaboration can result in creative outcomes are better understood, practitioners will not be able to …
Evaluating Post-Training Engagement, Caitlyn Dawn Gonzalez, Alyssa Trinity
Evaluating Post-Training Engagement, Caitlyn Dawn Gonzalez, Alyssa Trinity
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
Impact Launch (IL) is a collective of social impact professionals dedicated to creating sustainable and equitable change. IL provides strategic planning, project design, collaborative capacity building, individual and team coaching, and leadership intensives for leaders, businesses, and organizations. Similar to those who have undergone other training programs, alumni of IL’s leadership training are prone to becoming disengaged with the tools they have learned and stagnant in their learning. The purpose of this project was to begin efforts to increase alumni engagement with the tools and each other through conducting a series of interviews; 6 alumni were interviewed to collect feedback …
Experimental Music And Collaboration: Developing Artistry Through Performance Practice, John Lambert
Experimental Music And Collaboration: Developing Artistry Through Performance Practice, John Lambert
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
This project locates collaboration and collaborative performance as a potential site for artistic growth. This study analyzes six collaborative projects: composed pieces for electric guitar accompanying a staged performance of collaged texts, an audio-visual installation, the preparation of several short pieces to accompany choreographed dances, a 90-minute soundtrack to a performance mixed live, an ongoing improvisational duo, and a live visuals performance to accompany Sunburned Hand of the Man at Duke University. It traces the growth of my artistry while also providing a method for both doing and writing about collaboration. In addition, it offers a model for understanding collaborative …
The Perceived Self-Efficacy Of School Counselors To Provide Interventions And Support To Students Using Substances And The Potential For Collaboration With School Psychologists, Monica Holtz
Educational Specialist, 2020-current
Substance use has the potential to impact a student’s academic success; however, school counselors are in a position to intervene and provide support to these students to potentially mitigate the impact of the students’ use. Research shows that school-based interventions are effective in reducing substance use, but school counselors may not feel clinically prepared to provide these services. A random sample of school counselors in the state of Virginia practicing at the middle and high school level completed a survey regarding their feelings and perceptions of substance use intervention and support, including their self-efficacy to provide services, level of training, …
An Exploration Of The Relationship Between Interdisciplinary Collaboration And Participation Of Students With Disabilities In Secondary Career And Technical Education, Crystal Kay Emery
An Exploration Of The Relationship Between Interdisciplinary Collaboration And Participation Of Students With Disabilities In Secondary Career And Technical Education, Crystal Kay Emery
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Students with disabilities have been shown to be less ready for college and career when they leave high school than students without disabilities. Secondary transition is the process of a student with disabilities moving from school to post-school settings. Research has shown that participation in career and technical education (CTE) while still in high school for improves the likelihood of meaningful employment after high school for students with disabilities. Research has also shown that collaboration between educators improves academic outcomes for students. Special education (SPED) teachers have extensive training in supporting students with disabilities throughout the education process. Collaboration between …
Collaborative Practices Of Rural Inclusive Postsecondary Education Program (Ipse) Directors, Elizabeth Susanne Goode Dimond
Collaborative Practices Of Rural Inclusive Postsecondary Education Program (Ipse) Directors, Elizabeth Susanne Goode Dimond
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Inclusive postsecondary education programs (IPSE) for students with intellectual disabilities (ID) are relatively new, having their formal beginning in the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA; P.L. 110-315) of 2008. These programs vary greatly and are found in urban, suburban, and rural areas of the United States. Those programs in rural areas face unique barriers and have unique strengths that affect how they collaborate and with whom they collaborate. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study is to describe the collaborative practices of rural IPSE program directors. This study gathered the lived experiences of rural IPSE program directors collaborating with agencies …
The Making Of College Student Leaders: Implementing Reflective Practices For Self-Awareness Of Personality Traits And Leadership Styles, Valerie Gurrola
The Making Of College Student Leaders: Implementing Reflective Practices For Self-Awareness Of Personality Traits And Leadership Styles, Valerie Gurrola
M.A. in Higher Education Leadership: Action Research Projects
As a higher education professional, I seek to develop the next generation of leaders. The purpose of this research study was to explore how student leaders’ self-awareness, in terms of leadership styles, changed through engaging in self-reflection. The research questions were: (1) What do students know about their personality and leadership style after having taken the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)? and (2) Can engaging in self-reflection impact their leadership? Addressing these questions through research and implementing new practices would expand students’ skillsets. This is important because not many student leaders have access to tools and instruments that can help them …

The Impact Of Collaboration Outcomes In Rape Crisis Centers, Robin J. Mendoza
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Sexual violence is a health and human service issue that touches a multitude of individuals, organizations, and communities. Collaboration is essential to achieving desired outcomes to prevent or intervene in sexual violence. Rape crisis centers depend on cooperation and communication with other health and human service organizations to achieve common goals of reducing sexual violence. Increasing organizational effectiveness and diversifying social and systems change through maximizing relationships is an important facet of collaboration. The purpose of this research is to identify the extent of effective collaboration amongst rape crisis centers and their affiliates in the United States. Social and organizational …
Exploring Commons Governance, Nonprofit Commons Governance, And Convening Leadership In Nonprofit Organizations To Solve Complex Societal And Global Issues: A Qualitative Study, Patricia A. Clary
PhD in Organizational Leadership
Nonprofit organizations that operate independently without knowledge of effective governance principles and convening leadership through collective-action collaboration have less shared resources and philanthropic value to fulfill their organization’s mission. Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic accentuated awareness of the need for nonprofit organizations and voluntary action associations to collaborate, leading to increased shared resources and philanthropic value through governance and convening leadership. The purpose of this study was to examine four design principles of commons governance (Ostrom, 1990), five nonprofit commons governance principles and assumptions (Lohmann, 1992), and five convening leadership dimensions (Clary, 2021) to understand how governance and convening leadership contribute …
Facilitating Role Understanding And Collaboration Between Aspiring School Counselors And Principals: A Pilot Convergent Mixed Methods Design, Shelby Kaitlin Gonzales
Facilitating Role Understanding And Collaboration Between Aspiring School Counselors And Principals: A Pilot Convergent Mixed Methods Design, Shelby Kaitlin Gonzales
Theses and Dissertations
Using a piloted convergent mixed-methods design, I investigated role understanding and collaboration between school counselors and principals. Specifically, this intervention situated aspiring school counselors and principals in a curriculum implementation on the role of their counterpart and then brought the two professions together in a collaborative powerful learning experience (PLE). Neither the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP), American School Counseling Association (ASCA) or National Policy Board for Education Administration (NPBEA) currently require graduate students to learn about the role of their opposite counterpart or collaboration between the two professions before they graduate from their respective …
Power To The People: Libraries As Third Spaces For Civic Dialogue And Collaborative Empowerment, Laura Bishop
Power To The People: Libraries As Third Spaces For Civic Dialogue And Collaborative Empowerment, Laura Bishop
Community Engagement Student Work
The United States is experiencing deep divisions and lack of political will to address inequities impacting people’s lives. Pathways to convergence are needed to build bridges amongst community members for solidarity and community action to address these. Civic dialogue in Third Spaces is a method for cultivating understanding across differences to make change possible. Public libraries possess democratic missions committed to equitable access to resources, open exchange of ideas, and self-empowerment. Public librarians facilitate civic dialogue and engagement; little scholarly attention is given to their efforts. This project brought together public librarians interested in civic dialogue to explore understandings of …
Collaboration Literacy In Technical Communication: Using Workplace-Based Teamwork Practices And Technologies To Teach Distributed Knowledge Work, Marcy Bock Eastley
Collaboration Literacy In Technical Communication: Using Workplace-Based Teamwork Practices And Technologies To Teach Distributed Knowledge Work, Marcy Bock Eastley
Graduate Research Theses & Dissertations
Workplace changes and the continuing evolution of how we define and practice technical communication require that we consider collaboration in ways we may not have imagined ten, five or even two years ago. The unexpected COVID-19 pandemic pushed our world and collaboration into additional and unanticipated directions. Since one of our responsibilities as educators is to prepare our students for success in the workplace and beyond, we must take a closer look at how we understand and teach collaboration in our classrooms. While collaboration appears in existing technical communication pedagogical models, it has been viewed as an element of social …
Re-Rooting/ Re-Routing, Elisabeth Hanson Sundberg
Re-Rooting/ Re-Routing, Elisabeth Hanson Sundberg
Senior Projects Spring 2022
This paper is the story of a community art project with the goal of thinking through the two questions: How can an understanding of land, specifically the colonial and indigenous histories layered within it, facilitate acknowledgement of the relationship of local and non-local food to food access efforts? How does acknowledgement of the roles of local and non-local food in food access efforts, facilitate understanding of times when it is productive to gather as a community? The text is organized as components of a set table: the table supports, the seats, the table top, the table cloth, the dishes, and …
“Glory To The Heroes!” The Commemoration Of The Oun And Upa In The Ukrainian Diaspora, Liam John Hilferty
“Glory To The Heroes!” The Commemoration Of The Oun And Upa In The Ukrainian Diaspora, Liam John Hilferty
Graduate College Dissertations and Theses
In the late 1930s and early 1940s, the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists(OUN) was highly connected with Nazi Germany. After a failed declaration of statehood, their position towards Germany ostensibly changed, marking a shift from collaboration to resistance. The main organ of this resistance was the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA). However, the OUN and UPA did not openly resist the German occupation of Ukraine as strongly as they claimed. They were more focused on slowing the advance of the Red Army and a violent campaign of ethnic cleansing against Poles in Volhynia. After the war, millions of displaced Ukrainians found shelter …
