The Value Of Relaxation As Preparation For Rational Psychotherapy, John M. Hadley Nov 1937

The Value Of Relaxation As Preparation For Rational Psychotherapy, John M. Hadley

Master's Theses

The suggested uses of relaxation given by the technique of Freud coupled with the findings of Jacobson, Ferenczi and Bagchi have prompted the investigator to make some observations of the function of relaxation in rational psychotherapy. This presupposes that relaxation is used with considerable discretion. The investigation has been stimulated by a growing tendency in the Fort Hays Kansas State College Psychological Clinic to treat patients from the standpoint of the whole individual until specific traumata can be discovered In considering the value of relaxation, it may be well to think of the individual in much the same manner as …

Probable Origins Of The Modern Pueblos, Nan Ashton Glenn Jul 1937

Probable Origins Of The Modern Pueblos, Nan Ashton Glenn

Anthropology ETDs

In the foregoing study of the Plains and the Pueblos as compared on a basis of social organization, it is apparent that there are at least three possible groupings of quite definitely similar organizations: the Tewa and the Pawnee, the Keresan and the Omaha, the Hopi and the Crow. Although the preliminary intention was to attempt the discovery of cultural parallels among cultures related linguistically, it was found that, due to lack of material, this plan was unfeasible. In extending the search for cultural affinities beyond limitations of linguistic boundaries, the above pairing of similar tribal organizations were encountered. Summaries …

The Identification And Distribution Of The Ceramic Types In The Rio Puerco Area, Central New Mexico, Dorothy Louise Luhrs Jun 1937

The Identification And Distribution Of The Ceramic Types In The Rio Puerco Area, Central New Mexico, Dorothy Louise Luhrs

Anthropology ETDs

The Rio Puerco valley of the East has had a small proportion of human occupants with recent years and by the ceramic evidence available it is supposed that there was a small number of occupants living in the valley in prehistoric times. The earliest inhabitants probably entered the valley prior to channel trenching and surface denudation and possibly maintained small fields through flood water farming.

The ceramic evidence implies that there have been frequent group movements through the Rio Puerco area, thereby revealing the valley to be a migration route through which many different groups passed from early to late …

Psychology ETDs

Specifically the experiment sought an answer to the following questions: (1) Is there evidence for a critical area in the cerebral cortex for the control of handedness, and if so, what are the limits of this area, i.e., what is the least destruction within this region that will produce transfers in handedness? (2) Will a destruction outside of the critical area have an effect, and if so, how large must such a destruction be to cause it? (3) What bearing will the results have upon current theories of cerebral functioning, including localization of function, physiological gradients, mass action, and equipotentiality?

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Especially during the last century the health of school children has been a problem of deep concern. Many physical examinations have been given by numerous organizations with the intention of discovering organic disorders that might be detrimental to a child's normal social life. As a result of such study, humanity has generally come to recognize the social and economic costs of ill-health and has embarked on remedial and preventive campaigns to improve the well-being of children. Foundations have been endowed. Free clinics have been established to serve those families whose incomes prohibit them from securing medical services otherwise; county, city …

A History Of The Milwaukee Journal From 1921 To The Present (1937), Marcella Marguerite Connelly

Bachelors’ Theses

Though the title, A History of The Milwaukee Journal from 1921 to the Present (1937), may suggest merely a compilation of facts and figures showing material changes during that fifteen year period, that is not the primary object of this study. The author has chosen to pass lightly over the matters of mechanical changes, minor personnel adjustments, circulation increases and the like. Even the great work of Lucius Niemann, founder and inspiration of the paper, will be only briefly referred to, for that might well be the subject of another research.

Temperature Influences Of Lake Erie, Robert W. Schloemer

Honors Papers

It is a generally accepted fact that large bodies of water exert a decided influence on the climate and on the cultural development in the immediate vicinity. Just how much and at what times this influence is most felt has always been more or less a matter of conjecture. There are many variables which force themselves into the picture to the extent that it is difficult to determinate which one is at work at a particular time. Among these variables might be mentioned distance from the lake, elevation of land above the lake, angle of incidence of the sun's ray, …

A Study Of The Bell Adjustment Inventory, Nina Acona Jan 1937

A Study Of The Bell Adjustment Inventory, Nina Acona

Psychology ETDs

The University of New Mexico, through its personnel department, has, for three years, made use of the Bell Adjustment Inventory as an instrument for rating the personality adjustments of members of the freshman classes. The Inventory provides four measures of adjustment, and also a total score which is the sum of the scores of the four measures. The test has proved to be of value in determining cases of maladjustment and the several scores furnish a clue to the sources of such maladjustment. The results have been sufficiently satisfactory to warrant the use of the scores in comparing certain student …

The Third International, Helen Gertrude Sayles Jan 1937

The Third International, Helen Gertrude Sayles

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Since the World War, the Russian experiment has formed the basis for more comment than any other movement. Of particular interest to the people of the United States has been the Third International, or Comintern, having as its aim World Revolution. Although communism has not had a great deal of influence in the United States as yet, propaganda is being spread to such a great extent that expectations for the future seem significant.

The Third International which was based upon the principles laid down by Karl Marx and Engels in the Communist Manifesto in 1848, differed from the First and …
