Abstract

This paper presents the findings of a correlational study on influence of power and career progression on job satisfaction of library personnel on the Federal Civil Service of Nigeria. Total enumeration technique was used to administer questionnaire on 450 respondents from 29 Federal ministries and 44 Extra-ministerial departments.

The response rate achieved was 94.67%. The study found out that there were significant relationships between power, career progression and job satisfaction of the respondents. It is recommended that library personnel should be more committed in professional duties and also exercise the rights of office to ensure professional fulfillment and job …

In American culture, violence is typically understood as inherently negative; no one would want to be personally subjected to violence because violence by its very nature is undesirable. Thus, the idea of seeking out violence seems paradoxical. In cases where a person actively pursues violent treatment, the question arises: can violence be consensual? This question is included in discourse on sadomasochism (SM), or an attraction to giving or receiving pain in a sensual or sexual context, which many argue is a form of violence. There is a kind of power no one should have over anyone else, even if they don’t do anything with this power, or even if they only use this power for good. The republican tradition of political philosophy calls this kind of power domination. Here, I develop a theory of domination, and use this theory to advance our understanding of political legitimacy and justification.

My account of domination refines recent neo-republican attempts to identify dominating social power with the capacity to interfere arbitrarily with the choices of others. I argue that this capacity is not sufficient for domination. Instead, …

To test the existence of spatial dependence in an econometric model, a convenient test is the Lagrange Multiplier (LM) test. However, evidence shows that, in finite samples, the LM test referring to asymptotic critical values may suffer from the problems of size distortion and low power, which become worse with a denser spatial weight matrix. In this paper, residual-based bootstrap methods are introduced for asymptotically refined approximations to the finite sample critical values of the LM statistics. Contemporary American law, culture, and political theory restrain the concept of equality as a tool of social justice. Equality in conjunction with a strong emphasis on personal liberty operates as a mandate for curtailing state action, rather than an aspirational measure of the comparative wellbeing of individuals. As a check on state involvement, our cramped notion of equality limits the state's ability to affirmatively address economic, political, social, and structural inequalities.

This research investigated the viability of learning by self-managing split-attention worked examples as an alternative to learning by studying instructor-managed integrated worked examples. Secondary school students learning properties of angles on parallel lines were taught to integrate spatially separated text and diagrammatic information by using online tools to physically move text to associated parts of a diagram. The moving of text aimed to reduce learners' need to search between text and diagram, freeing cognitive resources for learning and affording learners' control of their learning materials. In this paper, a new approach is presented to reduce the nonlinear characteristics of a stressed power system by reducing its second-order modal interaction through retuning some parameters of the generator excitation system. In order to determine the second-order modal interaction of the system, a new index on nonlinearity is developed using normal form theory. A new linear wind generator (LWG), named PowerWindow, is introduced. The modular and scalable LWG is capable of generating power in low wind velocity condition, and hence can be an effective and safe power generator in built environments. The aerodynamic mechanism of the LWG power generation is elucidated using computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations, and the results are validated against the experimental data obtained from the prototype wind tunnel tests. This paper presents a direct power control (DPC) design of a grid connected doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) based wind turbine system in order to track maximum absorbable power in different wind speeds. A generalized regression neural network (GRNN) is used to estimate wind speed and thereby the maximum absorbable power is determined online as a function of wind speed. Finally the proposed DPC strategy employs a nonlinear robust sliding mode control (SMC) scheme to calculate the required rotor control voltage directly. With the proposed structure, a cost-effective microcontroller can be adopted to achieve an effective reactive power control in order to support the grid voltage within acceptable bounds by absorbing or supplying reactive power.
