Small School, Big Reach: Open Access Outreach On A Liberal Arts College Campus, Janelle L. Wertzberger
Small School, Big Reach: Open Access Outreach On A Liberal Arts College Campus, Janelle L. Wertzberger
All Musselman Library Staff Works
The liberal arts college environment provides opportunities for campus-wide engagement of open access issues that may differ from those at larger institutions. Because we support fewer campus authors, we are able to provide a high level of service. Librarians’ close connections with faculty and students allow us to move beyond articles and theses and solicit a wide range of scholarly and creative works to share in our repository. In addition, we’ve fostered conversations about open access, open textbooks, altmetrics, and copyright among faculty, staff, and students. This poster will present a snapshot of a variety of outreach and education strategies …

Open Access And The Institutional Repository, Julia Lovett, Andrée Rathemacher
Technical Services Department Faculty Publications
Over the past year, the University of Rhode Island (URI) has taken some steps towards shifting the default to Open Access for both faculty scholarship and student work. First and foremost, in March 2013, the URI Faculty Senate passed a Harvard-style Open Access mandate. And in February 2013, the Library and the Graduate School began making electronic dissertations and theses openly available through URI’s institutional repository. In this presentation, we will define Open Access policies and discuss why they are important. We will give an overview of our experiences with Open Access advocacy, implementation of policies, and next steps.

Migrating Faculty Publications From A Department Website To An Institutional Repository, Meaghan Corbett, Christopher D. Cook
Himmelfarb Library Faculty Posters and Presentations
In October 2013, George Washington University's School of Public Health and Health Services (now the Milken Institute School of Public Health) approached the Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library about moving a large collection of Health Policy Department publications and citations from the school's website into the Health Sciences Research Commons (HSRC) institutional repository. After a project planning meeting with the school's representative, library staff began uploading documents and citations from the collection. Working from a spreadsheet and file set provided by the school, library staff processed 604 citations (including 319 full-text files) dating back to 1996. Despite some problem files and …

Growing Ink: The Curious Case Of The Institutional Repository At Smu, Yeo, Pin Pin
Research Collection Library
InK, the institutional repository of the Singapore Management University (SMU) was officially launched in January 2011 with 7,000 metadata records for SMU research publications, only 600 of which was full text. The Library uses a variety of strategies to increase the number of full text papers and to raise awareness about Open Access amongst the faculty. SMU’s Open Access policy was approved by the University’s Research Council and promulgated by the Vice-Provost, Research to the community a year ago. The Library pulls the data from the University’s Research Publications System, an in-house platform, to capture faculty publications. This ensures that …

Cleared For Deposit! Tool For Reviewing Faculty Cv's And Depositing Articles In An Institutional Repository, Graham Hukill
Cleared For Deposit! Tool For Reviewing Faculty Cv's And Depositing Articles In An Institutional Repository, Graham Hukill
Library Scholarly Publications
This poster will focus on a tool we have made to streamline the process of reviewing faculty publications, most often via their CV, for deposit and self-archiving in a Institutional Repository. The tool uses an HTML/CSS webpage for the front-end, a MySQL backend, and pulls in publisher self-archiving policies via the SHERPA/RoMEO API.
Many libraries are beginning to review faculty CVs for publications that can be deposited in their Open Access Institutional Repository. SHERPA/RoMEO, "...a searchable database of publisher's policies regarding the self- archiving of journal articles on the web and in Open Access repositories," is primarily how librarians decide …

Partnership Between Library And Graduate School For Electronic Theses And Dissertations, Adrian K. Ho
Library Presentations
This presentation describes how the library and the Graduate School at the University of Kentucky collaborated to streamline the thesis and dissertation submission process. The outcome was that the Graduate School implemented an electronic thesis and dissertation mandate in Fall 2013 and students now submit their theses or dissertations directly to the institutional repository, which enables immediate free online access to their research.
Bridging The Gap Between Digital Measures And Digital Commons In Support Of Open Access: Or, How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love Human Mediation, Andrew Wesolek
Publications
Utah State University is home to a Digital Commons repository and an instance of the Digital Measures activity-reporting tool. The prospect of linking these two systems, such that content is automatically harvested from Digital Measures for upload into the Digital Commons is alluring. Our initial efforts were abandoned due to lack of faculty permissions and low-quality metadata. However, with the passage of an Institutional Open Access Policy, we resumed investigation. We found that the process of harvesting from Digital Measures and uploading to Digital Commons could be streamlined, if not fully automated. Our initial harvest revealed that human-mediation is desirable.

Annual Reports
ERAU Scholarly Commons, the institutional repository of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU), debuted to little fanfare but great hope on May 30, 2013. The implementation team had worked for five months with bepress, the vendor, to construct a home page that reflects the unique aerospace concentration of the university. From the outset, Scholarly Commons has proven to be an important university resource for faculty and student research as well as for the creation of new journals and the home of conferences and events. As the first year came to an end, faculty support continued to grow as did the requests for …

Librarian Research
This is a case study of the implementation of an institutional repository (IR). It is written for academic librarians who are looking for a primer on how to create an IR for their campus. Based upon Marshall University’s research and experience with this process, we present the essential elements needed to construct an institutional repository. Policies and procedures are provided that offer guidelines and checklists to follow for a successful ramp up and launch. A discussion about the value of an IR is followed by ways to secure funding and to implement a basic system that can be scaled up …

Criss Library Faculty Proceedings & Presentations
This presentation will discuss the benefits and challenges associated with Institutional Repository (IR) initiatives and development, while sharing our experiences from WySR (Wyoming Scholar’s Repository). Our institutional repository, WySR, will be used as a case study to illustrate particular difficulties in obtaining author versions of publications; the quality of open access research; and technical limitations.
