New York: An Analysis Of Current Changes In Party Support, Kerianne E. Kane

This paper is an analysis of the recent changes in party support throughout the state of New York. Based on research by James Gimpel and Jason Schuknecht in their 2004 book “Patchwork Nation,” the focus is on determining which specific factors have been contributing to the shifts in support for the two major parties in key regions of the state. In particular, migration and immigration as well as demographic changes within New York’s electorate are considered. More importantly, economic changes within the state and the effects they have had on party support are examined as well. My research is based …

Come hear Esera Tuaolo's searing story of terror and hope on Monday, November 28, 2011 at 7:30 PM in Edwards Hall Auditorium. Tuaolo, a Samoan raised on a Hawaiian banana plantation, had a natural talent, football. He went on to play for five NFL teams: the Green Bay Packers, the Minnesota Vikings, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Carolina Panthers, and the Atlanta Falcons in the 1999 Super Bowl. In 2009, the University of Rhode Island’s main library, the Robert L. Carothers Library and Learning Commons in Kingston, initiated a pilot serials withdrawal project when the need for space for new services exceeded the space available in the library. A joint venture between Acquisitions and Access Services, the successful pilot led to a subsequent withdrawal project in summer 2010 to free additional space in the library. The print journals targeted for withdrawal were ones to which the library had online access through licensed journal archives. The 3G Summit sought to bring students together from multiple Universities to create collaboration across diversity groups in the New England area. The I Am U URI group put a call out to new members to work across Universities on collaborative goals.

The summit was designed to accomplish 3 goals. Get people from multiple Universities to come together and talk about their experiences. Brainstorm things that everyone wants to work on. Establish contact information and ways to work together.

Comparison of the University of Rhode Island Libraries with peer institutions (as defined by the University's Office of Institutional Research). Data used are from the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Statistical Survey from the years 2006-2010. Metrics compared are: total library expenditures, total library materials expenditures, current serials expenditures, monographs expenditures, current serial subscriptions, number of monographic volumes purchased, salaries & wages professional staff, salaries & wages support staff, professional staff (fte), support staff (fte), and total library materials resource expenditures per student FTE.

Objective: To establish a Gifted and Talented Program that is linked with the Honors Department at URI to attract, support, and challenge individuals on the Kingston Campus. This program would work as Living Learning Community with students who elect to be live on campus together and give an opportunity for students living off campus to work collaboratively in a creative and supportive environment beyond the classroom. The targeted population for this program would be those individuals coming in from high schools and/or from other University programs.

This proposal outlines a plan to utilize the DigitalCommons Collection as a unifying platform that can be the vehicle for community scholarship, creativity, and outreach. This article communicates a strategy to connect the URI community through multiple points of access and create a blended environment in which all people may share and learn from each other.

Accustomed to a strict, rule-bound system, student veterans face unusual challenges in their transition from the rigorous regimen of a soldier to the more self-directed environment of a college student. The transition to college is often complicated when student veterans have experienced the trauma of war, or acculturation to another country. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people (LGBT) face many challenges in having their sexual orientation respected in the workplace. Although President Bill Clinton, in 1998, issued Executive Order 13087, prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation for most civilian workers in the federal legislation, protecting LGBT workers has not been successfully enacted by the U.S. Congress.
