Calling Attention To Campus Trends: Let’S Talk About Wellness, Mandy Magalhaes, Rachel Cullity

The Graduate Review

Abstract

This article explores the emerging focus on self-care and wellness amongst college students. In this article, the authors highlight the cultural shift from the “grind culture,” the complete and exhaustive dedication towards one’s work, to a focus on individual and community well being and how educational institutions are responding to students’ needs (Absher, 2020). Bridgewater State University's current response to student wellness is discussed, with a focus on the School of Social Work’s research efforts, programs and services being implemented, from the voices of graduate students. Self-care and wellness is an emerging conversation occurring in many professions and educational …

The Minefield: Designing And Implementing Human Resource Policies In The Age Of Social Media, Christopher R. Mcmillan

The Graduate Review

Human resource managers have had to navigate a minefield of laws and regulations while continuing to manage the traditional business functions of the employer. Now, human resource departments across the nation are tasked with managing the traditional employee-employer relationship in light of an ever-changing technological and legal landscape. Businesses across the nation have had to adjust to a rise in the use of social-media and have suffered the consequences of instantaneous communication between employees and the media. These same businesses must reconcile the need to protect its goodwill and livelihood, while incorporating the safeguards provided by legislation and regulations in …

The Chinese Railway Ministry has big ideas, not only for its country, but for the world. It is currently in negotiation with several other countries discussing its ultimate plan to build a trans-continental high-speed rail line that could possibly reach as far as the United Kingdom. A smaller portion of this potential rail system will be constructed in Southeast Asia. Part of China’s 12th five-year plan is to build a high-speed rail connecting the countries involved in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The goal in building the rail line is to improve transportation, collaboration, and trade in the …

Historical Commentary: Vietnam And Revisionism, David Culver Jan 1987

Historical Commentary: Vietnam And Revisionism, David Culver

Bridgewater Review

Last year General William Westmoreland told a Boston College audience that politicians caused America's defeat in Vietnam. Westmoreland’s charge reflects recent Vietnam War revisionism, the effort to rationalize America’s defeat by claiming that United States forces were prevented from winning. Besides the politicians, who reduced military spending, the revisionists’ cast of villains includes the media and antiwar dissenters, who turned the nation against the war, and various Presidents, who restricted military operations. If polls are to be believed, these interpretations are widely held by Americans, especially Vietnam veterans.

Completing The Missing Link: The Economic Impact Of I-495 On Southeastern Massachusetts, Glenn Miller

Bridgewater Review

The long-anticipated final link of Boston’s outer beltway, I-495, was opened in southeastern Massachusetts in November of 1982. South Shore residents who watched enviously as Rt. 128 and the North Shore experienced rapid economic growth and all the benefits (and possible drawbacks) of “high-tech” development, can now anticipate some of those changes in the area between Brockton and New Bedford. The catalyst, according to a wide range of indicators, is the completion of Rt. I-495.

It is generally accepted that access to a major highway provides the impetus for economic development and population growth. The full impact of circumferential beltways, …
