Collaboration Picnic: Developing And Maintaining A Growing Network Of Research Partners Across The United States For Successful Research Production, Jenessa Mcelfresh, Rachel Keiko Stark

Objective: The objective of this study was to highlight and document the ways that collaboration, specifically across great geographic and institutional differences, can be an asset when engaging in research in health sciences librarianship.

Methods: Impact and success were measured through formal outcomes (publications/presentations) and informal observations, primarily focusing on the collaboration experiences of two health sciences librarians in non-health sciences academic libraries. The history of collaboration spans from 2015-present day and includes demonstrated outcomes on the local, regional, and national level.

Human rights organizations are increasingly questioned about impact, which is particularly challenging for overextended and under-resourced groups that tackle complex issues requiring a long view to be achieved. They would greatly benefit from a manageable assessment tool to capture how well they are doing on key dimensions that are essential for that long-view impact. Building on my experience with the Ford Foundation’s Organizational Mapping Tool designed to assess organizational capacity, I propose to develop a tool to assess human rights impact.

Australian academic libraries first became partners in the transformation of Australian data and technology enabled research in 2008 through their involvement with the Australian National Data Service (ANDS) program to advance research data management capacity and capability. The partnership of academic libraries with ANDS enabled the development of new research support services and helped to shift the knowledge base of the academic community in research data management, in Australia. Digital literacy within higher education was originally grounded in Gilster’s (1997) definition that essentially framed it as information literacy using technologies. This has necessarily evolved over the past two decades in conjunction with rapid technological advances. Digital literacy concepts have attempted to match the changing landscape engendered by ubiquitous and ever more available technologies, where cybersecurity and accessibility, multimodal communication channels, and push-pull models of information delivery impact the way we learn, work and play. Digital Initiatives Symposium

Traditional library advisory services focus on the beginning and end of the research lifecycle, but what about students and researchers who need help with the steps in the middle? This talk will highlight UC San Diego's public service support for data collection, management, analysis, and visualization. In particular, we will highlight our Data & GIS Lab; Digital Media Lab; Digital Scholarship services, including KNIT, our digital commons; Software/Data Carpentry and other workshops; and consultation services for students and researchers.
