Dominic Bryan, Carl Milofsky May 2008

Dominic Bryan, Carl Milofsky

Northern Ireland Archive

Dominic Bryan is an anthropologist and a research partner of Neil Jarman. Bryan discusses how physical space is related to the conflict between the Republicans and Loyalists. Bryan discussed public order difficulties and how parades were banned and got out of hand at times. The changing from the Protestants controlling everything to everyone having a fair share was mentioned, as well as the difficulty in transitioning to that. He …

The Empowerment Of Women: Rights And Entitlements In Arab Worlds, Hania Sholkamy

Faculty Book Chapters

Since the late 1990s rights-based approaches (RBAs) in development have been advanced by the major institutional development actors such as the UN, multilateral and bilateral agencies, and international NGOs. A number of critiques of RBAs have emerged that question whether the emancipatory potential of rights discourse and practice will be realized within development. These critiques, however, have not sufficiently questioned the implication of rights discourse and practice for advancing a gender equality agenda and women 's autonomy. This is an area that needs considerable research, and this publication explores some of the key issues at stake. The publication, based on …

Rural Superintendents: How Do Wyoming Rural Superintendents View And Respond To The Challenges Brought About By External Demands On Their Schools?, Jeanne L. Surface

Faculty Books and Monographs

Very little is known about how superintendents respond to and view the challenges brought about by increasing external performance demands on their schools. The participant perceptions were organized into five themes: declining enrollment, isolation, board and community relations, celebrated accomplishments, and rural schools in contrast with urban or suburban schools. The superintendents were most proud of changes they had made to improve instruction in their districts. They spoke of challenges with bringing professional development to …
