Elder abuse is a social illness of epidemic proportions in the United States and older Americans constitute one of the largest age groups in the nation. Ironically, there exists no comprehensive scientific study on the national incidence or prevalence of elder abuse in both institutional and domestic settings. However, state-based studies conducted over more than two decades show rampant elder abuse is a fact. Testing Backward Linkages Of Fdi In China, Zhuomin Liu

Inward FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) affects productivity of local industries through three channels- direct effects, horizontal spillovers, and vertical linkages. This study focuses on the backward linkages of FDI in the 28 two-digit manufacturing sectors in China, as well as their horizontal and forward linkage effects. Two related tests, firm level pooled data test 1999-2002 and industrial level panel data test 1994-2003 are conducted to investigate whether backward linkages from multinational buyers brings productivity gain to local suppliers. This thesis seeks to examine the translation of selected foreign film-titles in Hong Kong and Taiwan from 1990 to 2002. Lawrence Venuti’s theory on “domesticating translation” and “foreignizing translation” will be taken as the conceptual framework for the study. Building on Friedrich Schleiermacher’s perspective on translation and on his observations about the Anglo-American publishing industry, Venuti asserts that “foreignizing translation”, being a strategy to bring the target-text audience toward the original text, should be preferred over “domesticating translation” as the former would guarantee difference by introducing foreign elements to the text recipients. 1971年，香港已經建立了綜合援助計劃，以幫助貧困長者，並在2000年12月開始執行強積金計劃。從目前的情況來看，香港已經建立多支柱的老年保障體系，SSA和CSSA為長者提供基本生活保障，MPF制度為正規部門的就業人員提供年金保障，ORSO制度為正規部門就業人員提供額外保險。但此體系還相當的不完善，並不能給長者提供足夠的、可承受和可持續的養老金。

因此，面對日益嚴重的人口老齡化和老年貧困問題，香港老年保障制度也面臨極大的資金壓力，並處於老年保障支出越來越多，老年貧困問題制度越來越嚴重的尷尬局面。本次研究針對這些突出問題，結合國際老年保障制度改革的經驗，並根據香港實際情況，提出適合香港本身的老年保障制度模式，即提高MPF繳費率，擴大繳費基數，改革個人賬戶積累發放辦法，並將SSA由全民平均津貼制改為收入調查津貼制。

本文運用世界銀行開發的PROST軟件，從精算的角度進行具體成本分析。通過對未來70年的成本預測，以及與現制度的成本比較，以判斷此改革模式是否具有長期財務可持續性和可行性。通過此次研究，希望能為香港的老年保障制度提供一個雙嬴的方案，既可提供長期的老年保障資金支持，又可促進經濟持續發展。

According to the intergenerational ambivalence perspective, intergenerational relationships are inherently structured so as to generate ambivalence. Ambivalence means the contradictions in the relationships between older parents and adult children that cannot be reconciled. Individuals are expected to use various strategies in their attempts to manage ambivalence at least temporarily.

中國現代作家沈從文 (1902-1988) 的著作，自一九四九年開始在中國大陸 和台灣被禁，長達三十年。這期間，沈從文的文學成就被主流文學史忽略，甚 至否定。可以說，沈從文在中國的文學評論界，以至中國文學史“缺席”逾三 十年。八十年代初，中國大陸的政治環境改變，西方學者的影響增加，中國學 術界開始重新肯定沈從文的文學成就，沈從文的名字乃得以在中國現代文學史 的論述中重現。反之，在西方學術界，沈從文研究從沒有中斷。

選集，無論是個別作家的專集，還是不同作家的合集，是作家風格、面貌 的縮影，而中國現代作家的英譯選集，更是英語讀者認識中國作家最便捷的途 徑。翻譯、編選是“重寫”(rewriting) 活動，而“重寫”往往隱含選取、評價 等判別標準，操縱着譯者、編者對作品、作家的認識與接受程度，對文學作品 能否成為經典作品和成為甚麼樣的經典，有一定的影響。本論文借用勒菲弗爾 (André Lefevere) 的“重寫”概念，先從宏觀角度探討沈從文作品英譯選集的編 者在編選過程中，如何“重寫”沈從文的形象；然後從微觀角度分析譯者在翻 譯的過程中，如何“重寫”沈從文的作品及其形象；而在兩種“重寫”的操縱 下，各英譯選集又如何折射沈從文的形象。
